Nissan's Golf rival confirmed for next year

To borrow styling cues from Inspiration Concept

Nissan's global product planning chief Andy Palmer has disclosedhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png information about the company's upcoming Volkswagen Golf competitor.
Set to go on sale next year, Nissan's Golf will take a few styling cues from the Invitation Concept shown at 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Palmer said "we'll start by not making any excuses for our car - in terms of dynamics and perceived quality it has to match it [VW Golf]". He added the recent V-grille going into the hood will be seen on the car, while the face will be a "little bit leftfield, a little bit edgy."
The new model will be built in Spain and have a familiar name that will "evoke something from the past." No details right now about when the car will be unveiled, but most likely the Frankfurt Motor Show in September will be the venue for a public release.

I was gonna say, that front end reminds me of the current fit.

If this ends up as a higher luxury/hp/not fwd "Fit" and priced below the Golf....intriguing...

Obvious imitation is obvious.

It's kinda hot! Looks like a 3rd gen Fit, so I can't help but like it.

Looks like a cross between the Murano and the Fit?

kenchan May 3, 2013 10:55 AM

that new fit's rear reminds me of the crv's rear end for some reason.

Well it clearly doesn't either way, so that's just some corporate BS.

The Golf is the European hatch bar none. Sure, it will only run for 20k miles if you don't get a diesel - apparently in Europe they consider that "quality" since it sells like hotcakes. If they had hotcakes in Europe. Which they don't, cause that's an American expression. Anyway. You get my meaning. It's a crap car but it sells millions of copies because it looks good and drives good and has "perceived" (hehehe VW execs lighting cigars with $50EUR bills) quality.

Looks interesting, but Mazda did not impress me with the 3 and every single person I've known with a 3 has had quality and realibility issues.

Regardless of how it looks and performs, I am not a Nissan fan and would not buy it.

Hmmm... I'm a die-hard Nissan fan (sorry, I probably shouldn't say that here lol), but I won't even pretend to be excited about this haha.

If the current paradigm is any indication then it'll be pretty hard for them to compete with the Fit in all areas. Seems like Nissan always outdoes Honda and Toyota in terms of tech features and perceived interior quality/comfort, but falls short in terms of reliability and fuel economy.

I'd like to see it after release, be blown away and go trade in my Fit, but I'm not loyal to a fault lol (otherwise I'd have gotten a crappy Versa). The Fit will still probably be a better all-rounder.
