Next-generation Honda CR-Z to be based on the Civic Type R - report

Could have approximately 224 HP (165kW)

The Honda CR-Z inspires a lot of zzz's but that could soon be changing as a new report is indicating the next-generation model will be based on the Civic Type R.
Details are limited but Motoring is reporting the company is developing an all-new CR-Z that will be underpinned by the Civic Type R's platform. The publication goes on to say that a prototype has already been built and it rides on a short-wheelbase version of the Type R's architecture.
While Honda recently confirmed the Civic Type R will feature a turbochargedhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png 2.0-liter petrol engine, the CR-Z is expected use a turbocharged 1.5-liter petrol engine and an updated hybrid system for a combined maximum output of 224 HP (165kW). For comparison, the current model has a combined output of just 137 HP (101 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque.
If everything pans out, the new CR-Z could be introduced in 2016.

Honda Seems Serious About New CR-Z to Fight BRZ, FR-S - Motor Trend

I was wondering when you were going to post it... lol

Earlier this year, Honda announced they're re-entering F1 as an engine manufacturer (partnered w/McLaren)..... since then it seems as if they got some nice plans on the drawing board (key words).

Hopefully we'll get to see these models on our shores.

Looks real nice (specs & all), but they did away with MT for a DCT (dual clutch transmission) which a lot of manufacturers are doing.. it looks like MT's are becoming extinct.

Well i'm glad they finally listened to me. Took long enough for that confused car to come out of the closet as a sports compact.

Maybe a turbo 1.5l will mean a Fit SI in the future? A hot CR-Z maybe a small RWD convertible for under $20k https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/othe...ports-car.html is Honda looking to add fun back into its line up?

I actually think Honda is thinking more in terms of Toyota's hybrids and not the FR-S. Toyota has started to develop performance based hybrids and maybe does not want to get left behind like the case of the FR-S. https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/othe...-revealed.html
