Honda Insight and CR-Z facing the axe in Europe - report

According to a recent report, the Honda Insight and CR-Z could be dropped in Europe.
Citing a company insider, Auto Express says sales have declined significantly enough that Honda is considering axing the models before the next-generation arrives.
As we have previously reported, the Insight has a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine and an electric motor that enables the model to produce a combined maximum output of 102 HP (75 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to return 65.7 mpg UK (4.3 L/100km / 54.7 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.
The CR-Z, on the other hand, has a 1.5-liter engine and electric motor for a combined maximum output of 137 HP (100 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the hatchbackhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png to average up to 56.5 mpg UK (5.0 L/100km / 47.0 mpg US) with CO2 emissions as low as 116 g/km.

Although the updated Honda hybrids would still be sold in America and Japan, a company source said low volumes in shrinking markets like Spain and Italy meant the petrol-electric models were unlikely to reappear on this side of the Atlantic.

However, the new Honda NSX supercar and new hybrid Honda Jazz won’t be affected, as the company says the proposed cuts to the range would be on a model-by-model basis.
When it arrives in 2015, the Honda NSX is expected to use a new direct-injection V6 petrol engine boosted by three electric motors – two on the front axle, and one built into the dual-clutch gearbox. Honda is aiming for a power output of more than 400bhp.
Meanwhile the all-new Honda Jazz hybrid will feature 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor that give a combined 133bhp. The old CVT is switched for a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and economy figures should be around 85mpg and 85g/km of CO2. It arrives in spring 2014.

yah, they should drop those in the US market too and concentrate on other cars.
such a huge dissappointment when they were released.

Insight is horrible, plain and simple. The crz could be so much more if Honda would grow some balls.

Sounds like the Fit Hybrid will not be offer here. No mention in USA.

Honda should regroup, fix their battery issues and build one quality hybrid. After they prove themselves then they expand hybrid technology to other vehicles. Honda is good quality but they missed the target on the hybrids.

that's kind of odd, but i suppose most people going for mpg would prefer the hybrid which could impact sales volume on the mexican made gasoline powered fit's for 2014.

first year is going to be a key year for honda mexico to prove to the world wat they can do with the fit's. :)
