2.0-liter to power Civic Type R

Honda has announced a trio of VTEC TURBO engines which will be offered in a wide variety of models in the near future.
The newly developed lineup of direct-injection gasoline turbocharged engines will work on small- to medium-sized vehicleshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png and will utilize Honda's Earth Dreams Technology. The smallest unit will be a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter power unit followed by a 4-cylinder, 1.5-liter engine.
Both of them promise to have reduced friction and a turbocharger featuring a low moment of inertia. The direct injection technology will provide a suitable balance between high output and torque, while at the same time remaining fuel efficient.
The 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter Euro 6-compliant engine is the crown jewel with its maximum output of more than 280 HP (206 kW) in the highly anticipated Civic Type R confirmed for a 2015 launch.

Might have to reconsider the 2015 Fit if the 1.5l turbo is dropped into it.

look at the fiesta, we'd be getting the 1L 3cyl if anything.

I wonder who's going to be first (in the US) to swap that engine in a GE8.... I'll take one of those, in a heartbeat.

Not sure with the direct injection how easy the swap would be? Kind of wish Honda followed Mazda put the new engine in the previous generation prior to releasing the next generation.

Did find this:

Honda URBAN SUV to be named CR-U in China and offer turbo 1.5

Honda Urban SUV will be built in China from 2014

The Honda Urban SUV will be built in China from 2014 by the Guangzhou-Honda joint venture, and it will be launched on the China car market in late 2014. The Honda Urban debuted as a concept on the Detroit Auto Show in January. The production version will be called Honda CR-U.

The Honda Urban/CR-U is based on the same platform as the Honda Fit that is already in production at Guangzhou-Honda. The Honda Urban/CR-U will also be built in Mexico for North American markets. The Chinese variant will be powered by 1.5 and 1.5 turbo petrol engines. The CR-U will compete with fine cars such as the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008; small-size SUV’s with a premium look and feel.

SUV means not a legal swap in CA. Direct Injection is not a big deal and changes nothing regarding a swap. i wonder if we get the Civic Type R, but likely no.

I got a inside scoop from Honda

North America will get a 1.0 Hybrid with continuous 2.0 turbo soundtrack playing in cabin
with mp3.There will be a software upgrade available for those that want enhanced blow off valve sound lol

seriously I would love to see any of these new engines in a Fit down the line.

kenchan 11-19-2013 03:14 PM

that is kinda silly... but did tesla do something like that in their cars? emulated audio sound? lol

DiamondStarMonsters 11-19-2013 03:27 PM

Several companies are doing this in new models.. even BMW.

zilla8 11-19-2013 03:28 PM

Good lawd and I was only joking about the fake sound lol @Kenchan check this out

The only criticism concerns the noise, or lack of. AMG has created a fake engine note for the SLS ED, so that there's some sound in the cabin, but it's too quiet. At idle, it sounds a bit like a Star Wars sample, but above 30mph, wind/tyre noise drown it out.

I thought you saw the Top Gear UK episode with James May doing the testing.... forgot which car they used the engine audio app... It might have been the Tesla like ken mentioned.

edit: ahahaha.. cjecpa beat me to it..

Another car with sound into the cabin

Dubbed Sound Symposer, the system is designed to amplify engine growl once the driving inputs get more aggressive. While the BMW system plays simulated engine noises through the stereo to beef up the sonic experience, Ford’s is more organic. Under normal driving, the vehicle's soundproofing reduces everything to a dull hum so the Focus isn't roaring like a lion during your morning commute. But push the car hard and a valve opens on a pipe connecting the engine bay to the cabin, channeling the sound directly from the induction manifold to the dashboard. The system is customizable, so drivers can modify when the system kicks in, or fun-haters can turn it off altogether.

I think you might be right seems like recent articles they are playing up the EPA combine rating of 36mpg better then any other car in its class except the Fiesta SFE.

I actually had some experience with this foolishness lol

Before my Fit I owned a 2011 Mustang 5.0 and removing the sound tube was my first mod :)

The rollout of Earth Dreams technology continues at Honda, which has just revealed details on new direct-injectionhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png, turbocharged 1.0-, 1.5-, and 2.0-liter I-4 engines. While the small, three-cylinder 1.0-liter probably won't be the first to be fitted under the hood of a U.S.-spec Honda or Acura, but the Civic, Accord, and ILX are probably on the engine-upgrade list. The turbo 2.0-liter I-4 is being used in the latest prototype of the upcoming European-market Civic Type R. All three engines have direct-injection technology and like the first-generation Acura RDX, are turbocharged. The turbo 2.0-liter I-4 will make more than 280 hp, Honda says, which could make it a good fit for a 2015 Honda Accord V-6 replacement or even a 2015 or 2016 Acura TLX. At first, the engine will be put to use in a European-market Honda Civic Type R, pictured here. A high-performance cooling system is also part of the engine package, which could even work in a future Acura RDX.
The turbocharged 1.5-liter I-4 is probably the more volume-oriented variant. The new Earth Dreams powerplant is mechanically related to the turbocharged 1.0-liter I-3 and includes VTEC with "thoroughly reduced friction" and a turbocharged that's said to be highly responsive. With a good balance of output and torque, versions of the 1.5-liter I-4 could replace the 1.8-liter engine in the Honda Civic or even the 2.0-liter in the Acura ILX, while the three-cylinder could be offered as a low-volume U.S. variant of the new 2015 Honda Fit subcompact. Stay tuned to MotorTrend.com to hear our first impressions on the new Honda engines, based on a bit of driving time in prototypes. For all your 2013 Tokyo Motor Show updates, don't miss our show page right here. In what Hondas or Acuras do you expect to see the turbo 1.0-liter I-3, turbo 1.5-liter I-4, or 2.0-liter I-4?
