GM announces Chevrolet will be axed in Europe by the end of 2015, will focus on Opel/

Blaming low market share

General Motors has disclosed plans to withdraw Chevrolet from Europe by the end of 2015.
GM has made a rather huge announcement today by revealing their intentions to retire the Chevrolet brand from Europe within the next two years. The large automotive conglomerate says they have taken this decision due to Chevrolet's failure of building a market share on the old continent and also due to the difficult economic situation in Europe.
After Chevrolet's European exit, General Motors will focus its attention on the Opel and Vauxhall duo as they have "growing confidence in the Opel and Vauxhall brands in Europe.” GM vice chairman said Chevrolet's retirement from Europe has nothing to do with the partnership between GM and PSA Peugeot Citroën as this decision has been taken "independent of the PSA relationship."

Related another GM Holden to be axed, could be phased out as early as 2016 - report

Decision could be announced early next year

Holden's future is looking increasingly bleak as several Australian outlets are reporting the brand will be axed as early as 2016.
Citing senior government ministers, ABC is reporting Holden was prepared to make the announcement this week but decided to delay the bad news until early next year.
The Australian government has been looking into the possibility of providing financial assistance to the automotive industry but one source told the outlet that Holden will "leave Australia regardless of any assistance package."
Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane dismissed the report but News Corp Australia says rumors have indicated a shutdown could be announced on December 20th. However, sources have said Holden is still debating whether or not to announce the shutdown before or after Christmas.
