Project Ideas
Well I sold my truck partially because some guy wanted more than I did and had the cash to buy it then and there.
Long story short, I was at the grocery store in the truck because the Safelite guy was installing my broken window. Some guy went in the store got the store to do an announcement to get me. Well I go outside and theres the guy. He said I've got 18k in my pocket for this truck, I said sold and went home and signed the title. So now I have 18k and I'm looking for something that I can buy, build and mess around with over the coming year. I'm open to ideas, but I'm not dumping the money in the Fit because it's pretty much the only car atm for me and the wife until she gets her new car. What's there? It would be Chevy or Honda based is what I prefer. |
Older Z06 or S2000?
Both have a ton of aftermarket support and are loads of fun |

Ah, my truck was basically a Z06 but in a Silverado/Sierra platform.
S2000, hmmmm...Time to see the pricing on them. A low mileage 2007 or 2008 will be well within your price range and still leave you room for modding it |
70s 240z. At least you might get a return on your investment in 10 years lol they're getting PRICEY.
You could build a bad ass EG with 10k and go to Vegas with the rest. Rebuild a classic. Also possible return on investment. If your going to have a fun car might as well really build it if you have the means and know how. If not just get the S2K or a FA5. Or a bitchin Camaro. Preferably an IROC. |
A 350z isn't my cup of tea. Never cared for them at all.
The 240z is a probably out unless I travel out of the rust belt here in Ohio. The EG isn't a bad idea, it's basically an older Fit. I've been looking at a 99-04 mustake. The Camaro is something I'd do, but I'd have to get a v6 car to trick insurance. I've got a few tickets so insurance isn't cheap for me. I'm definitely interested in something that insurance doesn't bat an eye at. Like my old truck. They saw a truck and not anything else. Hmm Camaro, EG, Mustang or s2k. Is an fa5 a miata? I have a friend with one and at 6'1 it's fun to say the least. He did that miata seat mod and I can do similar, I'd do a plate that said "corky" for lols. |
FA5 = Civic Si The last decent one IMO. I want one after I'm done paying the Fit off (which I'm keeping, that's in addition).
An $18k Miata could be bad ass. Do the 302 swap hahaha Edit: LS3 swap so you can keep the bow tie and cheap insurance. |
I would love to do a EK build one of these days, always wanted one back in the day
What about one of those OP? |
I would love to do an ek k20/24 hatch build
|
You can make a real wild street machine with 18k and some patience.. Fox Mustang with a big single turbo and LSx swap, putting it down through a built 8.8 or a bullet proof 9".
Take a junkyard 4.8 or 5.3, a used 88mm snail and pick a trans type you can live with.. A/T, h-pattern or something like a Lenco St1200. Then match a cam and springs. Now you've got the most affordable and reliable 850-1000rwhp capable drivetrain you'll ever find. In a chassis that is used in both circuit and drag racing For example, f you decide to get into some semi-competitive small tire racing, you would not have much left to do, and there is a never-ending list of supporting vendors and parts. Basically just a set of 28" tires out back, match a final drive and some safety equipment. |
If i came into $18K, id get my self a 90 Civic hatchback. Do a JDM front end conversion, throw a lightly built B18 or B16 into it and then lower the car on some old school rims.
|
Older Civic (EF,EG,EK) whichever you like. Or a integra.
|
You said a Chevy or Honda what do you want to do to the vehicles?

I've been looking and think I found the perfect car.
It's an old del sol. Lady bought it new had it ever since. It's a manual too. Only 2500 bucks. Needs a motor but big deal. It's a 93. I'm going to look tonight after work. Hopefully it's still there. If it is ill be taking a buddy to drive it back. It's 10 kins away from my house. I've always liked them so maybe I can pick it up. |
I love those things and have always wanted one. I think the SI has rear disk as well. Make sure to diligently check for rust because these things can be heavily damaged underneath.
|
Surprised how many are still around.

Yea I've already called the lady and she'll hold half of the money while i take it to get it on a lift for a day. Then if it all good give her the rest and go home.
It's black and i doubt it's an si. If anything its got rear drums and is a cheap version. But a trip to autozone can fix it. The paint isn't bad for a 20 year old car. Been garaged and babied all its life. She just bought a newFit and wants it gone is all. |
