Share your mileage

As you can see from my screen name, I get lots of miles out of my vehicles. In general I hate the car buying process. Also, cars and their transactions are expensive. When I do buy cars, my criteria are different from many people, if not most. I absolutely will not consider purchasing a vehicle unless I feel pretty confident that it will last a minimum of ten years and 250,000 miles. So that eliminates a huge amount of vehicles.

I'm interested in seeing what others are getting out of their vehicles. So share your stories. I will start with what my wife and I have accomplished over the years:

CURRENT VEHICLES:

2001 Chevy S10 LX V6 -309,000 miles
2010 (bought 2009) Honda Civic EX-L 4cyl - 160,000 miles

PREVIOUS VEHICLES:

1996 Honda Accord EX 4cyl - 475,000 miles
1986 Ford Mustang LX - 250,000 miles.
1979 Chevy Malibu V8 305 - 275,000 miles.

Cool thread idea!

My 2012 F150 that I just traded off racked up 61,378 miles in the 18 months I owned it. I'll be putting about 1000 miles on the fit over the next week. Definitely looking forward to the improved fuel economy :D

My first Honda was '86 Civic Si, 5 MT, bought new in 1986. Had 193,000 on it when I sold it in 1999.

Then bought used 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4 cyl auto trans P/U truck, "The Weak Dawg" (it's slow). Bought it 1999 after I sold the Honda, and still have it. Has 197,000 miles on it, still runs good.

Those are the 2 cars I had the longest. Had a couple of cars for 10 years or so. Current car is '13 Fit with around 7500 miles on it, bought used In Jan with around 4,000 miles on it. 5 MT. Hope it will last me a loooong time.

Thanks. I find it interesting how people have different outlooks on cars. Some guys are constantly trading, buying, upgrading, modding their cars. Some guys will lease and other guys drive them until the wheels fall off. All are interesting approaches and it is cool to hear how they work out for each person.

You have some nice mileage on those vehicles. If you take care of that Fit with routine maintenance, I'm sure it will last for a very long time. Afterall, it is a Honda and they make great vehicles. They run forever. That's why there will always be a Honda in my driveway - as long as they don't change their quality for the worse.

My 96 Civic went right to 200,000 when I traded it for the Fit. It could have gone longer, but I wanted a new car and the added utility of the hatch sold me.

205,000 on my 91 camry
186,000 on my 96 Accord

99 Prelude - 144K
07 Fit - 89K currently

Bought it with 52K on it in April 2009. I'm averaging 7,400 miles a year so far.

Howdy 05-16-2014 08:55 PM

Current:
2010 Fit Sport 34,600 miles in 40 months. It would take 24 years to reach 250,000 miles in this car.
2003 Ford Focus ZX3 129,800 purchased at 77k in '08

Past:
1994 Honda Accord EX sold at 173k acquired at 135k

I never wrote down the mileage on my older vehicles when I got rid of them, but what I know for sure is this:

I traded my two old POS vehicles for my Fit. At time of trade-in, they each had:

1998 Chrysler T&C minivan - 165.2k miles
1999 Ford Contour - 117.8k miles

creamycrab 01-31-2015 02:51 PM

1988 civic wagon - 177k miles

patm95 02-12-2015 08:41 PM

Highest mileage car I have had, was a mercury capri (small 90's convertable) that had 180k on it. My Fit has ~114k on it and haven't had a lick of trouble. Hope to take it to at least 200k.

hogwylde 02-13-2015 10:51 PM

I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum because I have a company vehicle that I have to bring home every night.

Had a 1991 Toyota 4x4 that I owned since new for 12 years. Sold with 62,000 miles.

My '09 Fit has 36,xxx miles.

wintermute 04-27-2015 08:49 AM

I sold my 2005 Prius at 94,000 last year and my new Fit runs at 5,307 (6 months with me)
I guess, that's below average

Ton504 04-27-2015 08:22 PM

Current vehicles

1996 LX450 207,xxx
1998 Land Cruiser 208,xxx
2000 GS300 114,xxx (on loan to pops)
2003 ES300 251,xxx
2011 Fit 61,xxx

I am getting rid of the FIT soon. I'll stick to my Toyotas lol
