B16A /LSD Toda engine in a '89 civic hatch

So I was doing what I always do, checking CL for EF/EG hatches last night.
And I see a 89 Toda stroker kit to 1.9!, LSD, Coil over, yada yada yada. All I see is TODA. Knowing Toda in Japan is like Roush is in the USA.
The paperwork is there the story is plausible and the price was about right. So I figure give a call to the guy and see if I can "feel" what a Toda is like.
O ya it gets better.
Less than a year ago the front clip from a avid Japanese track racer/ weekend warrior is shipped to Cali after it hits a wall and smashes the civic up. But it has a motor with a Toda balanced stroker kit in & it is okay. Long story short a shop owner here in Va. Beach buys the motor and the 5 speed LSD trans. and installs it in a 107k mile standard hatch. Then installs a 1991 Civic interior, don't know why but it looks good. Then puts the same integra confetti seats in it as I just installed into my EG!
But I have 2 sets of Si 90/91 seats in storage. The teggy seats have the back and leg adjustment and are soo comfy. But it's just an investment car so I'll put the Si seats in it.
But I'm straying from the story, sorry. The add reads " Moving out of the country and do not want to transport car, very motivated seller.
So what does it sound like to you? ... I just want somebody to take this car off my hands, right?, so I did.
It runs like a scalded ape. Took it to 7.5k in 3rd and it was so much fun that I know i'm getting tickets in this thing. Pulls so hard it's hard to think its only a 4 cylinder ;< ) .

So now it's official I have a Honda Emporium !! 5 hatchbacks

did I tell you how wonderful my wife is? ya she is, she asked me did you get it? are you excited? as I shook my head so hard my eyeballs looked like they where going to fall out!
It's been a way cool day!

refurbished the corner lights and signals in the bumper. power washed the exterior and under the hood.
cleaned up under the the hood> wiring, hoses and things. my favorite pup was hang'n with me and getting biscuits.... and sleeping in the sun.
added radiator supports that where missing, and made a ground strap from the valve cover to the radiator support. cleaned up the dip stick of the silver spray paint.
cut down the AEM short ram intake and cleaned the filter.
then work called and someone was stuck in the elevator , reset the hydraulic pump and it went up in an orange ball. usually that would have stopped my day,
but after that was over i came back home and checked out all the lights. Cleaned and polished the center caps then installed in the rims.

Sunday 7:38 pm.

Buffed out the hood, touched up some of the chips. cleaned up the top door trim on the driver's door and coated with truck bed liner. waxed 2/3 of the panels, and Jason and Josh came over. Josh brought his new 1993 hatch and Jason drove the Brute with a nice new black wrinkle valve cover he painted yesterday. The Honda Crew was at work, Rebecca dropped by to have me work on her Fit and the crew changed , oil/ filter, clean egr, and repair p.s. rear tire. Everyone left and I got a call that the boiler was down, went in check it out and reset and waited for building water temps to come back up.
and washed MzFiT.
and that was a great unexpected weekend!

Antique Plates are the Deal

title change and insurance today, antique plates were 50.00 - no inspection - 1 time fee- lower insurance rates- only drive weekends & holidays.
started in on cleaning the interior and door jambs. why do glove boxes have sticky stuff in them so everything is glued to the bottom?
I'm thinking the Si is going to be a donor car to this one...

took steering wheel off to detail. went to open the hood and the latch under the dash broke. nice thing is with a mint interior in the Si that wasn't a problem. there will be a lot of Si's parts in this car. looking for a ds door protection trim....

Hey Dr.
I don't have any space and it seems much different to load pix than it did 3 years ago when I was adding and removing pics.
It's a really nice EF and the Si I bought last year is a perfect donor for it.

Had a great day on the lil beast. Flushed the cooling system and changed plugs. Painted the front calipers and cleaned the inside of the front rims (Rota J mags). Added a "Old School" windshield banner. Cleaned the rear licence plate lenses and changed out the bulbs to blue leds (it's the kid in me). Painted the dist. cap red to match the original valve cover.
Repaired the door pillar trims where the top screw broke off the shoulder, JB weld to the rescue! The top trim on the driver's door was split and coming off in tears. exacto knife and truck bed liner and it looks like new. also the trim under the rear glass was also in bad shape and it got the same treatment. Added missing supports to the lower dash that is under the radio from Si. Found a overhead light from my stash of parts and cleaned it up for a later date. Pulled the dead pedal from the Si and installed in The Beast nice addition. Added a set of brake and clutch covers I had to the bare metal.

and a bunch more that I can't remember, and around 8 took her out for a nice drink of 93 octane Exxon. She likes that, when the vtec kicked in it was awsum :).

One word: Photobucket.

Sounds like a fun car and an interesting story on the engine.

Cleaning the hatch area

Started in on cleaning the hatch and spare tire well. All the pieces are there just missing fasteners everywhere. Started off by vacuuming then wiped down with spic and span with hot water and a micro fiber towel. I have at least 3 hatches so I took the needed parts from the sparsest one and install into this one. The rear panel under the rear glass was loose and all kinds of noisy. The welt trim around the glass was in the spare tire area and needs to be re shaped and cleaned then it can be installed >. I was cleaning the metal around the rear glass and thought something doesn't look right ...

It really is a solid/clean little car. With a crazy arz engine in it. But with all the parts I have squirreled away over the last few years this will be a handful of fun :D.

Hello Mike, I love that car. It reminds me of my sons swap and that was the green motor you might of remembered me posting. Honda messed up by not keeping that motor alive. A high revving dependable motor. With all the new technology it could easily be a 200 HP Hi mpg motor. I was afraid of it at first revving the motor past 8K with stage II cams but with all the thrashing it still ran great. Thanks for the memories.
