Ce28 bronze chalky and dull

1st thing i do is washing this wheel. Then i use soft99 polish after that i use 3m rubbing compound. Still not working. Thanks for your advice |

Yeah, they look clean, just oxidized maybe. Hopefully it’s not just the finish wearing through and showing the alloy underneath. But luckily for your wheels, either situation can be saved. If its just oxidized on the surface, you just need to take your pick of methods to remove it and not harm the powdercoat or whatever it is beneath (I’m not familiar enough with your wheels to know how the bronze color is achieved, but assuming they’ve got to be ‘painted’ in some manner whether anodizing, powdercoating, etc.) Claybaring would be a great place to start, certainly a mild bar wont hurt and if the stuff on there comes up, hey jackpot. If not- I might go for a gentle buff, starting off super-easy and adjusting as results are seen or not. If those are some scratches and such, claybaring wont get em out but polishing might. Last resort - if the finish is shot and serious cleaning (clay bar,etc) and polishing (buffer/polisher and compounds) don’t work, all is not lost. The wheels look in good shape, and worth restoring. They can be refinished, repainted, repowdercoated, or whatever you choose and/or is appropriate. Some amazing options with technology and colors, seems like anything is possible today. Back in the day you could get wheels in chrome or chrome, and if the chrome came off you got em rechromed. Maybe that’s why I HATE chrome. Get you some purple ceramic coat or some crazy ish, glass centercaps with goldfish in em. |
I don't think that a clay bar will help, as it only will remove surface imperfections on top of the paint. This looks like oxidation, and hopefully not any damage to the base layer (whether it is an anodized coating or powder coating). I'd try a buffing ball that attaches to a drill, and carefully try to clean it up with a mild correction compound. If that doesn't make a change, it may be damaged enough that the wheels need refinishing. But they are worth the effort for sure.

Thank you very much. I think it is chemical reaction that eroded the clear coat. Because it happen when i go to carwash and their worker use the chemical liquid to remove stain on my wheel. some of those wheels use super thin clear and as noted, car wash solution can damage the finish. i’ve seen so many wheels with anodized lips ruined too. anyway repaint sounds like a good plan and i personally like graphite or gunmetal colors so i’d change to those colors i’d dey were for me. GL |
