To be honest I forgot the engine designation but memory says k ? but it is a Japanese 1600 cc with Vtec making 175 hp. It has a red line of 8200 rpm. It is a track car for the street, used in IMSA events. And i drive it at 1 day every week without difficulty of any kind. been doing it for at least 2 years after refurbishing. As I get older my time for such is diminishing. I just drive it for the memories (and fruighten the locals). Others more knowledgeable with engine designations show is a B of some type as its 1600 but don'tr know what the designation for vtec version is as it wasn't sold originally in the US. The vtec valve is that little brown 'can' attached to the camshaft and can be seen in the photo and of course can be heard cioming on. |
well next time you drive it pop the hood
:) |
You would have a really difficult time getting a gas guzzler rebate for this car, since the law hasn't even passed, and if it does, your new car needs to get an EPA estimated 4 more MPG than a 91 CRX.

You are correct about CRX not possible for the gas guzzler incentive but for a different reason as I discovered when I downloaded the full text of HR2571. The 'old' car must not get more than 18 mpg and that eliminates the SiR as 25 mpg is pretty standard.. It meets every other criteria though. Guess I'll just have to sell. my age has caught up with me. otherwise getting 10 mpg more than the CRX is a snap for an insight and I think that might be a neat project to 'improve' its handling. You thinks thats funny you can't imagine how hard it is to insert photos from imageshack. Directions I got are gibberish. Still haven't figured out how to link to the photos in the gallery. them new-fangled computter things is too much. |

:) Thats what thought but still haven't found the stamped serial number section. I know there's one because all that was recorded originally but I haven't found the file yet. Engine is a tight fit. For years i just drive it and park it. I did find the heater panel fractured, probably from the heat being under car cover. But all gages etc wiork fine. Its only detraction is the boot is scruffy. as soon as I get the photos inserted you'll see. I believe its a B16 engine and it definitely has vtec power.Dynoed it once and got 146 wheel hp which corresponds to the 175hp engine hp spec. It might have gotten more but the dyno ran out at 7200 and hp hadn't bent. |

it not a k if it is only 1600cc. they never made a k series motor below 2000cc
k20=2000cc k24=2400cc b16=1600cc Then it is a B engine as I know the displacement is 1600 cc. Paperwork says B16A4 with 4.88 LSD and close ratio transmission. rated 170 Hp at 7800 rpm. Redline 8200. Funny, I thought I filed all the original paperwork and stuff when I refurbished it. But haven't found it so far. |
it could be a d16
|
That looks like a B16 to me.

Nope, not a regular B16; its the Japanese version with vtec. 91 CRX had like 115 hp or so and this one has 175 hp. out of Oak tree it'll take vettes but not for long. When its wet tho' Vettes are prey. The engine is a B16A4 DOHC vtec producing 170 hp at 7800 rpm. |
