Rode in a buddies 2018 and I said the exact same thing!? Even ours with 133k on the odometer and having just about every inside panels removed for various reasons was wayyy quieter!

It was cranking slow when cold and I didn't want the starter and alternator to have issues because of this amperage draw.
Went Honda OEM battery...

not too sure what's going on with yours but I have a Curt #56011 wiring kit on mine(2008 GD3 Sport) and have never had issues. Maybe a flaw in your wiring kit module? Ground issue?
