Getting Honda USA to fix dead pedal/headlight issue?

Hey y'all,

I saw this post on the Edmunds Fit forum about how to contact Honda about these issues, and thought you should all see it. I've heard mention that they might release a service bulletin about the mis-aimed headlights. It would be great if the deadpedal issue was fixed, too.

Worth a shot!

[edit] of course, there is always the aftermarket dead pedal solution! Zeta Deadpedal thread

Dear My Fit Family,

I spoke to Honda. They are willing to do something for us 2007 Honda Fit buyers who supported their product in the begining with regard to offering a DEAD PEDAL and a headlight upgrade but ONLY if WE ALL write letters to them about it. This is very important, as no dead pedal will cause lower back problems in drivers who drive more than 45min at a time. They were quite nice, but very clear that us owners have to write to them about these two things:

well the lights themselves are perfect but the problem is they're aimed too low and when driving in somewhat open spaces like freeways the beam doesn't shine far enough ahead.

They wont do anything for current owners. The lack of a dead pedal is not a safety issue. The headlights have to be approved so that means they meet whatever government standards there are for lighting; therefore it's not really a "serious" safety issue either.

Honda may make improvements for the next gen Fit based on our comments but thats about it.

Anyways, if the headlights are aimed too low just raise them yourself.

the dead pedal thing is pretty unconfortable, but it's not like driving is all that good for your back even with a good place for your left foot. how would they fix that anyway? as for the lights, i noticed that too, but i don't mind doing it myself.

I thought the dealer was the one who aimed the headlights as part of PDI. My headlights hi/low are both aimed perfectly.

Maybe some dealers aren't aiming the lights and they're always low when they come in? Dunno.

Stacey14, Zeta should have an aftermarket one that bolts to the floor in a few weeks (link in the original post). I wonder if Honda would use a similar approach..

Maybe it's because my old car has such dim headlights in comparison to the Fit, but I haven't driven any really pitch black highways yet, so I can't say if they're too low right now.

As for the dead pedal, fat chance they'll fix that in this version. But I found a little "edge" by the door opening for my foot to rest, more like my toes. But it works for me now.

But I may end up getting the Zeta solution if it is reasonably priced and easy to install.

1. Headlights. I adjusted mine myself. Use a #2 phillips-head screwdriver. I spent some time getting mine tweaked out but they are good now.

1a. Fog lights. Mine were equally too low, so I adjusted them, too. You will need a 6" long phillips-head screwdriver to do this.

2. Dead pedal. As I have an AT, I have found that putting my left foot to the right of the wheel housing, kinda under the brake pedal provides me with the comfort that I need when travelling for a distance.

Good stuff. I'm going to send a fax on Monday from work. If anyone comes up with a nice form letter that we can all use, feel free to post it.

You are kidding right?

Everything you mentioned here could be fixed by yourself. As someone mentioned, there is nothing wrong with the headlight beam as they meet government standards. If you find it to be too low for your comfort, look in your user manual and it'll tell you how to adjust it.

You do know that if you adjust your foglights too high, it'll render them useless in actual fog. The point of foglights is to make the road visible, as the foglights are low enough, so there is not much fog to penetrate. If you aim it too high up at the fog, you might as well not use them.

As for the dead pedal, I seriously don't see what you guys are complaining about. Most cars in America don't have a dead pedal... and I don't see how it can be argued as a safety issue.

Again, I'm just passing this info along that was posted on Edmunds, since MANY people have been complaining about the headlights and the lack of dead pedal. Doesn't hurt to try, right?

When my Fit comes in, I'll adjust the headlights myself if needed. Many people aren't comfortable doing things like this so it would be good if Honda can make sure they're not too low. The sharp cut-off is probably part of the issue.

As for the dead pedal, I might just buy the Zeta solution if I find it bothers me on long trips. Both things certainly aren't deal-breakers for me, as my Fit is on order and should be here in a month.

Gotcha.

I was just saying that since the cars been out for a while, the dead pedal would've been a problem they might have solved if it was an occuring problem and complaint from the drivers in the other countries where the Fits been sold.

True, but most of the Fits/Jazz's that were sold overseas are Right Hand Drive, and therefore don't have the wheel well intruding the dead pedal space.
