Don't know about meeting up today. Got a list and a half to do here at home before this week officially starts.

My favorite pic from last year. Haven't been through Turnagain Pass this year but I hear its deeper.
Haven't had any problems going 75 MPH in the Fit on unplowed/ icy highways. Drive past lots of 4x4s in the ditch. Attachment 71348 |

Jeez it looks like you guys on the west side got more snow than I did over here on the Eastside for once.

looks like we'll have another big one coming up wednesday. fun stuff..
|
i think we should have a snow meet.
|
i'm down as long as you have it closer to Tacoma for the snow ones. parents dont really want me driving in this weather
|
sure. the 4 of us that meet are closer to tacoma anyway.
|
alright, well if this ever happens just LMK
|
i will hit you up. we could bring the cameras and play around in an icy parking lot.
|
I'd be down for a closer meet... just would have to leave here with plenty of time to get there, idiots around here make me hella nervous.
Although, I've got plenty of parking here if you guys want to travel down this way. There is a fairly nice lot behind some buildings that you can play in. It is watched, but I saw a trans-am and lifted pick up head over there this morning. :) |

How do you use ABS effectively in snow?
I found this article:
"Is the stopping distance shorter with ABS? No! From early commercials, it may have looked like you could stop on a dime. That instantaneous stop is not realistic. When braking on dry or wet roads your stopping distance will be about the same as with conventional brakes. You should allow for a longer stopping distance with ABS than for conventional brakes when driving on gravel, slush, and snow. This is because the rotating tire will stay on top of this low traction road surface covering, and effectively "float" on this boundary layer. A non ABS braked vehicle can lock its tires and create a snow plow effect in front of the tires which helps slow the vehicle. These locked tires can often find more traction below this boundary layer." That is so true. My dad had a Corolla and I used to be able to stop on a downward hill by steering hard to the left or right. It will lock the front wheels but the orientation of the tire allows the car to actually stop on the hill. When I tried coming to a full stop in my Fit, it just keeps pumping the brake until I slide all the way to the bottom of the hill~! what the....... And even on level snow, I can stop quicker without ABS using the steer-hard method...... I doubt I can turn ABS off..... |
there generally is a ABS fuse that you can pull... but this will probably do more harm than good to your brake system.
