1. I have about 5600 miles on my 09 Fit Sport AT, mostly highway, and the oil life reports 60% still. When should I go for an oil change? I'm not used to waiting this long.
2. Are there any performance air filters available yet? I've used K&N in the past and was very happy, but they don't have one for this car yet. How long does it usually take for such filters to hit the market after a new car comes out?

That K&N is only for the 07~08 GD fit... the Air Fiter size on the GE 09+ Fit is different.... But I belive that test fitting has been done .. and it`s only a matter of time before they release it for the GE chassis.

About the oil change- read your owners manual, especially with the first oil change. You could go up to a year without having to change the oil/filter. I know some people get stuck on the whole 3k or 5k thing, but these days you should follow what Honda says. I know I'll probably get "flamed" for saying that but that is EXACTLY what the Honda Techs have told me.

We get people asking about that all the time, from Accords, to Civics, even S2ks. Honda says you don't need to change it until at least 7500 on most of their cars. The computer bases it off your driving style, how hard the engine has been pushed, and how well the oil is still holding up.
Do these things have the maintenance minder things? I haven't read my manual yet so I don't know, but like on the Accords it is the best thing. It'll tell you what needs to be done then. If you need a rotation, or air filter, or cabin filter, etc.
When we did the PDI on mine, I just went ahead and put Mobil 1 in

One thing to note too, the computer only keeps track of the QUALITY of the oil, it doesn't tell you how much oil is actually in there. If you're at say 7000, I'd suggest maybe just quickly checking the dipstick to see if there's enough oil. For now I'm sure it should be fine since the car is new, but it might be a good habit of getting into to make sure there's always enough oil, and if there isn't then you know you should book for an oil change asap, and possibly a maintenance.

Just one thing that might need clarification. As far as I know, the Maintenance Minder knows nothing of the quality/condition of the oil. It simply measures engine variables (temp, load, trip length, etc) to estimate how the oil is degrading. It's not an actual sensor/instrument that measures oil properties.
Correct. The oil life meter for both the old and new fit are the same. It is not a real time oil quality analysis machine. It will not compensate for the use of synthetics. It's calculations are based on exaclty what you said above ^
The maintenence minder will tell you what needs to be accomplished though - the different letters will tell you if you need a rotation, filter change etc.
It should tell you in the manual but I believe you hold down the trip reset button and then turn the key to the run position...but don't turn the car on. Keep holding it down and the light will go out.
purolator pureone oil filter and mobil one synthetic for me. changed oil at 5,000 and will be changing it again at 10,000. after that my oil change intervalls will be every 7,500 because synthetic lasts a lot longer than most people think.

Isn't the low oil light for when the oil pressure drops?
I certainly won't wait for that to come on!
I believe the manual states that the so called "low oil light" denotes low oil pressure, and not a low oil level.
There is no way to know if your oil level is low unless you check the dipstick, dipsticks!

How often should I change my oil after the first service?
Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended service intervals. Separate maintenance schedules are listed for "normal service" and "severe service." Read the description of severe service carefully. Most vehicles will fall under the normal service category. Note that the service intervals are listed by time in addition to distance. Your oil should be changed at whichever interval, time or distance, occurs first.
There is absolutely no benefit in changing your oil more frequently than recommended in your owner's manual. This will only increase your cost of ownership, and create an unnecessary burden upon the environment by increasing the amount of disposed oil.
Do not exceed the recommended maintenance interval. Oil eventually deteriorates and loses its ability to protect your engine, due to heat, friction, and exposure to exhaust components. Engine oil contains special additives to enhance the oil's performance, and these additives are also broken down or consumed with distance and time. Engine damage can occur if the proper maintenance schedule is not followed.
i did my first oil change at 1000 miles just to get any potential gunk out of the oil from factory. then again at 4000 miles to synthetic and will change oil again at 9000 miles.
