Honda Remote Starter for 2009

Why doesn't the remote starter from Honda work with the base model (at least according to this site)?

Just a guess, but

Probably cause the base doesn't have the security system (or keyless entry). I believe the remote starter is somehow connected to that.

You probably can get the full system from Honda which will cost $$$, or just go with a good aftermarket alarm with remote start.

Not 100% sure though.

I wouldn't buy the factory remote starter. The range is only 200 ft. and cost more than a good aftermarket one. Not to mention the dealer is going to probably charge you to program the immobilizer before its functional. An aftermarket remote starter you can probably get up to a mile range with a lot more features, such as an alarm.

Has anyone ever heard of possible warranty problems if someone other than the dealer installs a car starter? I was told on my last vehicle that if someone (other than the dealer) installs the car starter and it causes electrical (or some other) problem, the warranty would not cover the problem.

Is there a way to change this behavior (from Honda Fit Accessories webpage FAQ on remote starter)

-----------
Q: Does the Honda Remote Starter System function differently than aftermarket versions?
A: Yes, the system functions differently in the following ways:
• Unlike aftermarket versions, the Honda system shuts the engine off when you unlock
the vehicle. You must restart the vehicle, which provides additional security and safety.
----------

This is garbage. When it's -25C outside, I don't want the car to turn off when I press the unlock button. I want the car to continue running when I press unlock. Like all other remote starters I've used, I'd expect the car to 'turn off' if I press a pedal inside the car without inserting the key first. Why the heck does 'unlock' turn the car off?

When i purchased my fit few days back, i was told i could purchase the Honda 2 way pager alarm system with remote start for i think it was around $1300 installed. I told them no thanks, i have a viper alarm which does all that. Then i was told, it wont be covered under warranty if something goes wrong like an airbag suddenly delpoying or something. Maybe i'll just wait till warranty is over b4 doing anything.

any good shop that installs and sales alarm system knows the risk, dealers well tell you anything to sale there stuff over after market so unless a dumb a$$ installs your alarm system, nothing should go wrong besides i know that if my audio shop messed up my car so bad that it started fire every time it was started they would fix/replace what ever they broke even the hole car if needed its called insurance so when i have the cash on hand im getting an after market alarm system in my Fit but first im (by "im" i mean them) working on my audio system.

besides i have never heard of an alarm system triggering the air bags

When i purchased my 09, I told the salesman i wanted remote start... big mistake. Burns Honda near my house offered to add remote start to my Fit Sport for a mere $850. I decided to go to my friends auto saloon and had remote start done flawlessly for $250
