What does this light mean in the console?

SO this morning after I warmed up my car and started driving a light came on that is a weird U shape with lines throught the bottom. Kind of like

(,,!,,)

There's an exclamation mark in it. I don't keep the manual in the car and can't find what it is online.

Anyone know?

It sounds like tire pressure indicator. I'll check and edit in here later.

Cool thanks for checking. I thought it might be that but when the lights are all on there is a light that specifically sames TPMS so I didn't think it would be that.

Well, it was dark this morning so I know I disengaged the parking brake because of the DRL's triggering.

The light is Yellow.

It was the Low Tire Pressure light for the TPMS, its an image of a bulging tire with an exclamation mark in it.

TPMS is the spawn of Satan himself.

Yeah it is because it doesn't tell you which tire it is!

I see. The "weird U-shape" is actually an illustration of the tire carcass itself, in cross-section.

We don't get the TPMS here so admittedly this is the first time I've seen this warning light.

Why is TPMS the "spawn of Satan" by the way?

Sensors are installed in the wheels to check the pressure. If you want to swap your wheels out for aftermarket, the sensors go away and the system reports an error and gives you the ugly dash light. You can buy sensors for the new wheels but they are expensive.

So, bad if you want aftermarket wheels. But it is good if you just stick with stock wheels because it tells you that your tire is low when it looks like it might not be low.

TPMS

I see that you live in so cal. Mine went on this morning too, probably because it was unusually cold. It usually goes away once weather warms up a bit again.

Make sure to check your pressure anyway (33 psi) for all tires.

that's right, its a cross section of the tire, I hate it for three reasons:

  1. I run aftermarket wheels and didn't want to drop $300 for sensors for them.
  2. It is super sensitive, if the temp goes below 40 degrees it stays on for days and the pressure will only be down a pound or two.
  3. It was federally mandated because of the Firestone/Explorer debacle. A wonderful blanket punishment for one companies piss poor quality control and the other's design failures.

Got some air in during lunch and it's off now. Tires were down to 25-30. Light went off after getting them back a little above 40.

It's time to check ALL 4 tires. Laziness like that is why USA Fits have TPMS.

I see, thanks. I didn't know it was federally mandated due to the whole "Explorer exploding tires" issue way back when (1996?). Doesn't even seem like it addresses the issue sufficiently, too.

Call me old-fashioned, but I still believe in checking tire pressures with a good ol' tire pressure gauge every week, or every two weeks at the longest.

@ Kenchan's "hairy butt alarm" joke.

40 is a bit much you might wanna drop to as close to 33 as possible but not to go under or over by 2 psi (31-35 psi)
