Supported MP3 players

Anybody have a list of supported MP3 players?

I tried the Sansa S200 that I use when traveling on the bike in my wife's `09 Fit Sport last night. Plugged it into the USB port in the upper "glove" box and the radio face plate said "Unsupported".

1. Ipod

And that is all folks. Otherwise, it's mostly meant for USB flash storage.

So, y'all are sayin' that my Sansa C200 that stores and plays back 400 songs for 40 bucks is no good? Then what the heck is the USB port in the upper glove box for? And why does the owner's manual say it MP3 players are supposed to work?

OBTW, don't have nor want an over-priced, IMNSHO, ipod, iphone or any ithing.

Honestly i think the ipods are one of the few things that apple doesnt heavily overprice. Just get yourself one from a reliable seller on ebay. I love working my ipod though the stereo and never ever having to take the thing out.

I think you can put the sansa into a hard drive mode which then will be read by the usb port. This is assuming that your files are encoded as an MP3 which is the only format supported other than ACC when using an iPod. To do this on a sansa go to the Sansa c200’s Main Menu, go to Settings/USB/Auto Detect and change to MSC mode then plug it into the Fit. Let me know if that works. PM me I would be glad to help.

OK, maybe I'm dense, but what will an iPod (lowest price fro a new 8gig nano is $110.00 USD) do that my MP3 player doesn't?

Well, other than work with her Fit...

Thanks, WhiteNoise!

That's the info I'm lookin' for. Currently they are set on "AutoDetect". I'll chenge `em over to MSC and try `em when she comes in tonight. Oh, and yes, they're all MP3 format.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it works out.

Actually it does less than the Sansa lol. But those nanos are hella small and iPod interfaces are everywhere. I say if you cant get it to connect as a mass storage device go with a flash drive.

It would be more trouble than it's worth for me, as I would have to select out the iTunes purchases from my 20 GB song library, think about organizing the music somehow on the flash drive and decide what part of it I want (I have the same issue with my 2GB Nano, which I have a smart playlist to fill with random music).

Or just buy another Ipod for the Fit--I picked up a refurbished Ipod classic from the Apple online store for less than $200 (I think it was $167 for 80GB black Ipod classic) and I've got my entire music collection, all playlists, no muss or fuss. Does one need an Ipod, no. But you may want one. YMMV.

I just noticed this quote in your signature, "Comin' out of T2 at Texas World I ran out of traction and talent all at the same time... "

So what happened? I must have logged easily 1,000 miles on track at TWS; never so much as dropped a tire off through T1-T2 (although I spun once braking to turn in on T1, due to an ABS malfunction that caused rear wheel lock up; as soon as I eased out of the brakes, spin city and flat spotted brand new Hoosiers).

That's the one of the differences between bikes and cars. Bikes don't spin out.

What happened was that I had dropped lower than usual in one and two to go under another rider. When I got back into the throttle headed for three, the back end stepped out and I had a little high-side. I've raced on that track since the mid `70's and that's the only time I went down between two and three. Better there than some other places, though.

Yep. Plain ol' MP3s. To further my edification, I loaded a Charlie Daniel's Band CD on one of my 512mb flash/thumb/jiffy drives. Plugged it into the USB port in the upper glove box and it worked just fine using the controlls on the head unit to change songs, etc. Even listed the album title and song titles in the head unit msg thingy.

I guess it just doesn't like the Sansa.

I'll pop for an 8gig USB flash/thumb/jiffy drive from Office Mx or Office Depot for fourty bucks and call it good.

Thanks all of y'all for your help and opinions.

I picked up a 09 TW fit sport last night and my 4th gen Ipod will NOT work with it. It says unsupported as soon as it's plugged in. My friend has the current Ipod( that worked) and his brother had the previous gen ipod mini and that worked too. Is the 4th gen NOT compatible ? I thought it was... Thanks for the help.

To me, the best bet is the flash drive. I bought a 8gb, and switch out its contents monthly. Otherwise, it sits in the glove box.
