Just pick up the fit 2 days ago, got some question/concern
Hi guys,
Just picked up a sport fit auto, pearl black, two days ago. Just want to drop by and say . Love the car so far, but have some problem already. My first day, the car TPMS light came on (40 miles on the odometer), took it back to the dealer and have them reset it. Drove it around town and it came back on that same day, . I even turn off the car, check the tires pressure at 33-34 psi all around, start the car again with no luck. The next morning I plan on taking it back to let them check it out AGAIN, on the way there the light (TPMS) just went away by itself. Not sure why. Have not come on since (90 miles so far on the odometer). Hopefully it will be stay off this time. Anyone have this TPMS problem this early with their '09 fit? or did I get a lemon? thanks for your help!

Shouldn't come on until you have less than 80% recommended pressure or about 26PSI. Sounds like one of the senders mounted in the tires is too high. The service dept should be able to test these and replace the defective one.
Mine came on the 2nd or 3rd day I had the car. Guess what: low tire pressure. After filling it back to 32PSI it took half a block driving for the light to go out.
I think the recommend tire pressure on the driver side door is 33psi. I would check tire pressure at least once a month. Temperature has direct impact tire pressure as well. Cold weather can drop tire pressure a little bit. So inflate tires in the winter and deflate tires in the summer to the recommend psi.
Some FIT owners set their tire pressure at 40psi to gain more mpg.
During this season, where the days may be in the 60's and the nights may drop into the 20's, I find that the cold tire pressure may vary by 3-4 psi between morning and evening. This much variation can set off the TPMS if you set the tires to 33 psi during the warmest part of the day.

What symbol came on? There is one for a system malfunction (TPMS) and one for a low tire (U with !). I get to look at the first one all winter; don't have sensors in the winter rims.
As I recall, when I put the summers back on, the system and the sensors didn't immediately start talking to each other, so it may be your system will now settle down. If not, off to the dealer for you.
Rule of thumb for tire pressure/temperature is one pound for every ten degrees. I have a garage, so I have to fudge for the difference inside. Absolutely, it can vary 3-4 lbs with the big temp swings in the fall.

My tire pressure indicator lights came on a few months back. Didn't know that it was for my tires so I looked in the manual to see what the light meant. Put air in my tires and the indicator didn't go away for a few days, roughly 2-3 days later it went away. =)
Update.... racked up the fit with quite a few miles these past three days, (250 miles on the odometer) TPMS didn't reappeared at all. Am guessing the issue is gone for good (hopefully). I just don't understand why it the light showed up in the first place, after all, its a brand new car,got it off the lot at 10 miles, and I didn't do anything to it.

My low-pressure light too came on one cold morning here. I checked all the PSI's and I was down two pounds all around. Filled them up, and it took the entire drive to and most of the drive back from school for the light to go out.
You're supposed to check PSI's when the tire is cold anyway, which I have a tendancy not too...."/
