lower RPM's after a oil change?

after my first oil change, i noted a change in the RPM's, thay are lower than what thay used to be. before when driving at 55 mph i was at 3,000 RPM's in 5th gear now its under that, like 2,700 or 2,800. even crusing at 65mph my RPM's are lower than before to any one?, is this normal?

I doubt if this has anything to do with an oil change. Is this an automatic, or manual? If auto, then maybe it was never in 5th gear. Did you use 5W-20 oil? Of course, using 5w-30 or straight 30W would have nothing to do with RPMs at a certain speed, it would just result in less efficiency and thus burn more gas.

Oil can't change the RPM like that. Did you change wheels or tires to some with different diameter?

Wait til after the 2nd oil change it will hardly be over 2500 and another 2-3 mpg.

Seriously are you sure you were not driving around in D3 vs D?

Maybe your OEM oil filter from the factory had a defect or was clogged causing slightly higher engine RPM's.

Is this MT or AT? If it's AT it's probably just the torque converter being locked/unlocked at different times throwing you off.

since it's a fixed-ratio linkage between the wheels and the engine, and clutch slippage would result in higher RPM the only explanation is the tach or speedometer are inaccurate.

I haven't noticed any RPM change on my MT Navi, but then again I rarely look at the RPM's (only certain instances). What I did notice was that at 8500 miles (right before the 15% oil maintenance minder) the engine seemed to have more power to it, and my MPG's shot up by about 5mpg.

Driving distances, style, conditions, etc, have remained the same.

agreed. Your gears have a specific ratio as it isn't a CVT but a 5MT. Since the computer controls the gauges, there may be an issue there.

Or that.

Is that your smushed fit in your avatar? I got rear-ended on I 285 this week too. Semi into a pickup into me. Pickup lost. Barely a scratch on my bumper; the guy's Nissan Frontier and the rear bumper of a Fit were made for each other. Not so for Frontiers and Freightliners.
