Door negative and positive switched?

Hi everyone!

I just got a new fit and I'm slowly learning more about it. Could anyone quickly explain what negative and positive switch means? And which one does the fit use?

Thanks!

Where is it located? Do you have a pic of it? I see your in Canada so there could be a difference but a pic would help or a location at least.

Best guess without further context is that the distinction is whether the switch is on the supply side (battery +), or on the ground side (battery -) of the device/lamp/etc.

For purposes of turning lights on/off, either would work since you are still breaking the circuit when the switch is open. For practical purposes, switching the "plus" side would be preferable because then there is no live power at the lamp or socket unless the switch is closed.

I agree with this 1000% doing a little electrical work myself, but I thought somewhere I heard that in automotive wiring they switch the negative side. That makes no sense but I thought I would ask about it. Hopefully it is just something I heard that was indeed wrong.
