just got my new GE8, need some advice

Hey guys, i recently traded in my gd3 (MR SA) for a new 2011 ge8 in alabaster. Now my gd3 had a red and black theme with blacked out foglight covers and black/red rim integra meshies. It looked great and i got a lot of complements.
Now with the ge8 in silver, I'm having a hard time coming up with what secondary color to go with as a theme. Ppl have suggested everything and i cant do it... besides black, everything looks like shart. Can u guys post up pics of your silver ge8 with rims??? I'm staying with the oem rims right now just cause funds are tight (i just bought a new car...) thanks guys!!!!

I would like to see a flame theme. Maybe across the hood and down the sides. Slam it and get those finned super wide wheels on skinny tires. Curb rash is a bonus.

As soon as I decided to trade my 2009 base in on a 2011 base fit I knew I wanted a machined face rim. Also going for some dark accents like the splashguards, visors and tail light tint.

Everything goes with silver though. Here's what I've got going on with mine so far.

Haha, You see us GE8 owners are still trying to find our common identity, so you will discover that a few of us try to stomp out this wheels, drop, offset nonsense in the bud, before its all we're know for. I mean this is a perfect example, you get a GE8 and first thing you want to do with it is put new wheels on it, when the stock ones are halfway decent in terms of weight and style. Yes there's a bit better out there but not by much. But that's alright, we all start somewhere. Hell, I used to love decorating with those LED lights once upon a time. I even used to think spl was cool.

Anyway, time to consult your trusty colorwheel:

Color wheel says that light to medium brown is your ideal accent color. Bronze might work.

On the other hand if we go with this color wheel:

You can pick any color as long as its a 4 or a 5.

Soo many.... Colors... Well the only reason I asked is for color choice. I'm keeping the oems. The look great, but silver rims with silver paint is too much, ive decided on ... Solid black

i like silver on polished wheels depending on the wheel choice, looks so clean especially after a wash and detail. if you're keeping the stock wheels i would do black like you mentioned.

then there's matt's ge8

spray chrome? i never knew such a thing existed lol... polishing the wheels can be labor intensive but the outcome is usually worth the effort!

here's a great DIY from vwvortex

Good read, but 2 questions: ge8's aluminum? Or steel? Mine seem really shiny, are they coated with clear?

The tail light tint came out well! What did you use?

I tried the spray chrome on other parts, and it didn't work worth a damn or look like chrome.

Aluminum, they are coated with clear.

If you want them shiny, you'll have to strip the clear with some aircraft paint remover and start polishing them, there's tons of DIY metal polish threads online you could follow. It is labor intensive and IMO probably worth it to take it to a wheels shop and have it done.

Unless you like doing that stuff yourself. I do. Refinishing/painting/polishing wheels is one of my favorite Sunday activities hahaha. Set aside a whole day or two to complete the task if you do it yourself.

Welcome to FF
