STS is Street Touring S which is for H stock cars that are modified for suspension (springs or coilovers), wheels, air intake, exhaust, rear swaybar, strutbar, etc and also running on street tires- usually Extreme or Max Performance summer tires.
If they run on competition R compound tires with the same mods then they would be in F Street Prepared which is more difficult.
More powerful cars run in Street Touring X or Street Touring U (like an RX-8 that has been modified).
