The problem with your experiment is that statistically you haven't proven much. You need to take the individual 3 ankfuls nd calculate the 3 sigma variations of both sides of the result and see if there was at least 90% assurance of a difference.
Its a common error by the globval warming proponents because they have no idea what the temperature range of theearth for the last 100,000 years, only the last 50. All they have i a trend and trends are not surety.
For example, I recently took off the inlet iping and substitted aair horn. My last two tanks have been 2.5 mpg improved. Not necessarily from the air horn (velocity stack) - yet. I need about 6 tank fillups to compare to the last 6 fillups before and even then because the air temperature has changed (down) it may not be indicative then.
But hold on and when you clean the filter and re-oil it be very careful to do it properly. Excess oil from reinstallation of even new K&N's have been known to foul the MAF sensor.
