I just bolted up the Tanabe Touring Medallion exhaust...

You can BARELY tell a difference.. Still sounds stock! Muffler is straight-thru design too, and nice looking.

I'm curious too. What about the Apexi WS2 exhaust? It shouldn't be as loud and should be less restrictive, but any chance of a 1-2 mpg increase?

idk about louder means less restrictive. i think the radius of the exhaust would have to do more with restriction thus making it more efficient whether or not the radius creates a better air flow. as far as MPG? if anything it would? but not significantly.

+1 its about how you drive and how the item is designed. More likely than not the difference if any will be pretty minimal.

For the most part performance products will probably reduce your mpg because it makes you WANT to drive a little more aggressively and faster.
Psychology 101, want to drive slow and get better mpg? Lose the mental influence of the hood scoop, loud exhaust, spoiler, etc. Loud makes you want to rev more...speed more...so you can hear it better.

If Honda was able to design an exhaust that would make the Fit even more fuel efficient, don't you think they would have done it. It would only add to the appeal that this car has for the target audience.

Absolutely not, because those exhausts are loud as hell. Since 90% of people who buy cars (especially ours) buy them simply for transportation and transportation only, they would not purchase the Fit if it had a loud exhaust like the aftermarket ones. The same deal with the restrictive airbox setup our cars have. It's restrictive but it's quiet, which sells more cars.

Fart Pipe = Leaky exhaust. A result of a cheap weld-on hack job done at the local muffler shop. An imitation exhaust system usually sold on Ebay.

I have a thought; we know there is some power gains from adding an exhuast system which means either more fuel is being added OR greater engine efficency is achieved. From what I know the Fit already runs an optimized air to fuel ratio mix stock so it can get good fuel economy... so even though you are making the exhuast less restrictive, does that not then trigger the onboard computer to respond to the changed O2 sensor readings and add more fuel to the mix (Thus also accounting for the increased power gains).

Anyway, I don't really know myself. Interested in learning more

That is a very good question. Efficiency is increased for sure however nothing the stock ECU can't handle. Now if the ECU adds fuel is hard to say.

Other than changing out the air filter for a K&N unit, I plan on paying the car off. When it is paid off I think I will install the HKS turbo kit and be done with it. I'm not looking to go fast but a little more power would make his car very fun!
I don't wish to change the stock exhaust on mine until obviously needed. Something similar to the RSR ExMag system would be what I would love to get.
I am not sure if they have it available for the Honda Fit.

For now I am enjoying the reliability of a fresh Honda with great gas mileage. This is my third Honda and my first new car.

Regarding this question: remember that an engine is in essence a big air pump, and the faster you can suck air in and blow air out, the more efficient. Ooh, that sounds kind of bad. Not intended.
