bike rack for 2007 Honda Fit
Hi everyone,
Im new to the forums!
I just purchased a new 2007 Fit this July.
I am trying to find a bike rack for this car and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which bike rack would work the best for the Fit.
thanks,
jeremy

At this moment, neither Yakima nor Thule USA has an official set of clips for the 2007 NA Fit, so we're kind of winging it until they do. It also depends upon where on the car you want to carry your bikes. Some are going with the Thule rack (and ordering it from the UK), while others of us are using either the Curt or Reese hitch available from etrailer.com, and going with one of a variety of 1-1/4" receiver-mounted bike racks.

www.roofrackshop.com It's in the UK, you pay about $100 in shipping, however, if you price a similar set for the civic in the U.S., it's actually more expensive to buy it in the U.S.. Surprsing given the weak dollar. I got the 750 foot pack, with aero bar (a 40-50 upgrade), and locks, with shipping for about $345. It got here in 5 days - I can't get a U.S. company to work this efficiently. I was thrilled with this website and love my rack (got a fairing from the U.S. Thule $60, and it really cut the wind noise - without it, there was an odd, and a little irritation hum over 40 mph).
john,
i also had a weird subtle erratic wobbling hum starting at 40 mph. really not that bad at all, but still worth a fix. i ordered a fairing, hopefully to both eliminate the subtle noise and maybe even help regain a hair more mpg.
are you using the 48" bars?
NCfit had no noise with 48" crossbars, I think. My crossbars are 58" and i installed permanent tracks to the roof, so i thought my longer bars/track method could have been the cause of the noise.

I know this is an old post, so forgive me. I've got 2 mtn bikes, If i DO get a fit, but no bike rack, would they be be able to fit in the back using one of the modes? i've got a scion xb now, and they "fit" kinda tight....
thanks,
jeff
thanks,

I did it.
I have the Hidden Hitch 1 1/4" reciever, I bought it from Folding Utility Trailers, Trailer Kits, Parts and Accessories - RedTrailers.com
I am using the Thule T2 917 1.25" 2-bike rack. It is awesome. I have 2 bikes at roughly 35lbs per bike and it works great. The rack is a little expensive, but my bikes are priceless to me.
I've used it all summer and have had no problems with it so far.

There are decent roof racks out there, but there are drawbacks to them...
- first one is cost - the bars, fit kit, locks, and 2 carriers can cost upwards of 800 dollars
- second is height - with the fit being tall and skinny.. adding another 3-4 feet to the height would make it really tall and possibly not fit into garages or underground parking lots.
- third is fuel consumption - all that additional drag would drop your mileage and create a fair amount of wind noise.
- and fourth is scratches.. - the fit kits and such can cause scratches on your roof from all the vibration and trying to put your bike up on your roof after a long ride can be a tricky task.
with the hitch style, I installed the hitch and put my rack on and the total cost was $600. no wind noise, no loss in fuel consumption, easy to lock and load, and best of all... the rack is easily removeable when not needed.

I think two mountain bikes (and two people) can be carried in the inside of the Fit. I have put my XC hardtail (both wheels off) in the rear cargo area using tall mode. The fit was tight, and I suggest having a towel to protect the interior against grime from your derailler. The two wheels, a second bike, and gear would go into the rear passenger area. The second bike can probably keep its rear wheel on and still fit. I have not tried driving around with this setup. Long travel bikes probably won't fit like this.
Another idea is to fold the rear bench down (utility mode) and stack your bikes like pancakes. Maybe four+ bikes can fit like this, with padding between them.
I believe i paid $85US + shipping at Folding Utility Trailers, Trailer Kits, Parts and Accessories - RedTrailers.com
Thanks, big decission for me, i gotta fit my mtn bikes in a fit if i get one, otherwise no fit, lol
One bike is easy, two bikes requires creativity...

Then again, if i stack them like pancakes, (thats what I do in my xb), you think there would be enough room for that?
thanks again :-)
jeff
I would think there would be enough room. The fit is pretty tall. But then again, your xb has a similar sized interior. I don't have four mountain bikes readily available to try it. But ill put my road bike and mtn bike in there and see if there is enough room left.
Also, does anybody know of a YAKIMA styled roof rack avaialble? from japan, europe or the us? I love the fairing on the front and it gives the car a sporty look..
Thanks again
