Hah! Took my personal Fit (09 Sport A/T) on a business trip yesterday and today. Refueled about halfway through a 3.5 hour trip. With a/c on, driving the speed limit at interstate speeds ranging from 60 in urban areas (DFW) to 70 out on the open road, I got an indicated 50.3 mpg! My error is consistantly 4.5 mpg so that still means 45.8. On the return trip the wife called me and told me to hurry so I could pick up the kids. Bumped it up to 75 mph in the 70 mph zones. Dropped to indicated 45.9 or approximately 41.4 and I still had 1/4 tank when I got home! Crazy good mileage considering the a/c was on most of the way! I love this car! And it was one comfortable interstate cruise. BTW, checked the tires before I left and all were between 38-40 psi.

Its funny because I recently changed the tire pressure in the FIT from 32 to 40 psi and it has made a noticeable difference in my mileage. I was getting consistently 31 to 33 MPG around town. Now after the 3rd tank since the change I am averaging 36 to 38. Tire pressure is the only change I made.

WTG on the 45 mpg. Got similar on a trip from Cincinnati to Dayton and back avg. 55-65 mph.
Think they (the tires) are rated at 44psi max. 33 is just to ensure you get the most comfortable ride without sacraficing too much in terms of MPG.
Just boosted mine up to 38 psi as well--have seen a noticiable difference in fuel economy. I'm used to 32 in the city, and I'm noticing that the gauge is registering well above that.
Yes our local Honda Dealership has all their Fits on the front line and all the insights are back at the side. Why spend all that money on a hybrid when you can buy a Fit for less.
remember tires heat up so even know you put 32PSI on a long run it can go as high as say 50PSI dont believe me try it out on your next long tripit might not be 50 but its a lot higher than you might think

I've run higher PSI in all my cars ever since last spring when gas really started to spike. I do a lot of highway commuting and haven't had an issue yet.
Yeah, I am REALLY glad I got my Fit over the Insight, which is what I ad set out to buy. But considering the fact that I couldn't even get an Insight with cruise control for under $23k, I couldn't justify it!
Now, perhaps I could justify a Prius, but I prefer the money in my pocket! And best of all about the Fit, it's just a completely normal driving car.

Don't forget the storage capacity of the fit. The hybrids out now are not worth the extra $$$ unless you are willing to wait 10+ years for your return. I had my stock tires at 66psig and the coasting was excellent.

I think I had calculated that with my daily mileage, using EPA figures and then-current gas prices, it would take me 5 years to make up the difference in cost between my Fit Sport a/t and an LX Insight. I didn't even realize at the time that I'd need an EX Insight for cruise.

Tires on it now are at 75psig. Dangerous? It handles fine, I know my limits(cars and tires) and drive appropriately.
We've studied the effect of air pressure on performance and mpg and find no real change in mpg above 50 psi but considerable loss in cornering as pressures rise above 60 psi. Somehow, we think you've convinced yourself that easier effort on the steering wheel is good.

Can i have your fit(what's left of it) after you blow a tire?
I ran the stock tires at 66psig and achieved 46K with 4/32 of tread left. I had 2 tires that had a plug in them because I ran over a nail - no blow out and no issues just a typical slow leak. My new tires I have been running at 75-85psig for a little over 20k now. For these tires 50 psig is still too sluggish when coasting.

I do it for the glide, not for steering. 50psig on the stock tires is about 3mpg less than at 60psig. This is with P&G not cruise control. I would never run the stock tires over 70psig since they were hard as a brick at 66psig.

Wow, and I thought I was brave to run my SAAB 9-5's tires at 50 psi. Not being in front of my car, what's the max recommended inflation pressure? Surely it's not THAT high?
