DIY Test Pipe Install

Aight this is really easy to do, but some people are not that mechanically inclined. So here it is.....

Me or Fitfreak are not responsible for you screwing up your car, so do at your risk.

You need:
*Test Pipe (duh)
*Breaker bar FO SHO
* 3/8 or 1/2 rachet
* Extensions for rachet
*14mm Socket
* New bolts for mid pipe end (M6 I believe, but forgot) available at Lowes


First the test pipe. I painted mine High heat Black, and then wrapped it to keep some of the raspy sound down.





Next need to remove the old Cat. In this pic you can see the end bolts by the Mid pipe. Three of them. The bolts are pressed into the cat pipe. Just the nuts come off. Save them and take them with you to lowes for sizing. I bought all new bolts, washers, and nuts. Remove the O2 sensor while you are there






In this pic are the two spring bolts at the top end of cat pipe, by the exhaust manifold. These are just bolts that tap into the exhaust manifold. No nuts on other side. Take them off to reuse.



I cheated and used this extension bar to reach up in there.



Cat is out. Note the bolts that stay on the one end.



Now install the test pipe with the spring bolts up top.




Install your new bolts and nuts on the other end to tighten to mid pipe. Reinstall O2 sensor now. Your done. Enjoy the noise

You're the man! M6 bolts from lowes huh?

Are all of the bolts 14mm?

Yes all the bolts are 14mm top and bottom side.

Test pipes are numerous: aspec,tr1,megan, etc...goggle or ebay got um.

No not at all. Most quality test pipes have a bung that is welded to pipe to eliminate cel. In pics it is the tube coming off the pipe. It keeps the o2 sensor back out of the flow of the pipe therefore not allowing a cel to occur. Keep in mind this opens your exhaust up, so any cat back will be LOUD

Ah thnx, it's hard to tell from the pic, it looks as if the o2 sensor is in the actual cat. My last car fouled sensors like no ones business, then again it was running rich so that might have had something to do with it. Did you also remove the resonator

O2 sensor is in cat, but sticks out of test pipe. I left stock exhaust at that time so stock resonator was there. I then installed 60mm tsudo cat back with after market resonator. It was way too loud. My stock cat is back on now. Test pipe will be used at track only

The test pipe would probably be alot quieter if there was a turbo muffeling some noise.

Yes there was a difference. When I installed my cat back it was real loud. So loud I reinstalled my stock cat, and sold the test pipe. If you track it this would be great.

Agreed, test pipe IMO is only for track cars... I couldn't stand how loud my car was at highway speeds.

Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but....If I have my setup, with just a Megan axle-back, and I add a wrapped T1R test pipe, would it be incredibly loud? How loud compared to just an axle back? I kind of like a LITTLE raspiness, hoping the wrap would keep it down, and am also looking for a little bit louder exhaust.

Do you think i'll be steaming rice every time I drive, or do you think it will be a modest sound increase-on the stock setup with just suitcase axle-back?

Lemme know everyone, I love exploring all these threads

Fitdrummer I have the Megan axleback and Megan resonated test pipe. It is not loud or raspy at all.

Can someone post a pic of what the test pipe should look like? Is it straight, or have bends??
