STS Turbo (Squires Turbo System)

Has anyone looked into this turbo kit? There is a universal one for the DIY guys.

ghostfit will become famous soon enough
They have been around for about a year now. They are turbos that are mounted at the end of the exhust system instead of being in the engine bay. They are one of the more controversal turbo systems because many (including myself) believe that there is no way for this system to be set up with out massive lag and damage to the turbo due to road debris. If you want a diy turbo set up, make you own.

Pretty cool idea, until you hit a speed bump and high-centered on your turbo

more like 4-5 years, but yeah I agree its a bad idea. especially for you guys who live in the wet and cold country. you can tell me a 1500+ degree turbo will like a patch of snow hitting it, or a puddle of water for that matter. not to mention the lag!

when i was part of the ridgeline forums, there was one guy from hawaii that had it...

very very low gains and tons of tuning. everyone eventually bad-mouthed him for his choice, but hey, be unique.

I looked at this myself a bit (not for the Fit though) is kind of a neat setup. The main problems is the universal kit comes with a HUGE turbo, is probably way too big for the Fit... you also need real-estate underneath the car to mount this setup which the Fit does not have a lot to spare.

I think it would end up costing a lot and as said before, expect some turbo lag as it tries to fill the pipe, the only way around that is to shrink the pipe with a reducer to get rid of some of the volume. There is a good side to the long pipe though, you can get away without an intercooler.

Sts

STS turbos are huge to make up for the lag, this way its easier to fill small pipe, (think of it as a small compressor filling up a huge tank and a big compressor filling up a small tank) they do come with reducer's. The turbo will not crack if you hit a splash of water . the only way that they will get them to crack is to go from 1500+ to having it submerged and cooling it quick enough to cause it to crack. The squire turbo system does not get that hot since it is mounted far back thus giving the oil and hot exhaust time to cool down as opposed to up front glowing turbos.

Would be cool if somebody piped it into the spare tire well.

The whole point of the turbo being mounted way downstream in the exhaust system is that it doesn't generate ridiculous amounts of heat. They claim that the exhaust gases cool down enough by the time they hit the turbo to keep it cool.
