Manual or Electronic Boost Controller?

I am looking for a boost controller.. I'm thinking of the Greddy PRofec B Spec II Electronic one, but I want the opinions of the forum members on what is recommended or needed..

Is Manual Boost ok? the cost is so much less than electronic..

State which one you choose, why you chose it and why not the other?

Thanks.

Your first choose of boost controller is the best in my opinion. I have used a couple of diff ones, Apexi AVC-R was to much work just to control boost, also got tired of the Big blue screen. Had a Back in the day Greddy Profec A loved it, my favorite was the Greddy B with the High and low button. Greddy is the best user friendly one. Being able to change your boost settings when you need to is a big thing with me, so never messed with the Manual ones. I have not got one yet but the Profec will be my controller.

IMHO, and from personal experience, the profec B II is garbage. I know some have had good luck with it, but from the application I have experience with, it could not hold consistant boost. The boost chart was all over the road.

Do it right and get something like the HKS EVC VI or Blitz SBC i-D if you are going the EBC.

The ease of use of a manual boost controller is nice and a lot cheaper than a good EBC.

only problem with a manual boost controller is boost creep, especially with the cheaper ones.dont wanna pop a motor just cause you skimped on a boost controller.

I've been trying to decide between the Hallman Pro Evo manual boost controller.. it has a cable that runs into the cockpit of the car to adjust boost, it seems like a decent one.. its like 150 off ebay.
Applications

The other option again, is the Greddy Profec Spec B electric one.. about 2x the price.

I can see the advantage of th EBC since you can adjust boost on the fly, but with the Fit, I can't really adjust it that much.. I'd be going from 6psi to 8.. maybe 9-10.. if I had an STI or EVO I can see the advantage of the EBC over MBC, as you have so much more boost range to play with.

Its honestly up to you. I have a manual as they work fine and are way cheaper.
Plus I keep my boost on my Mazda at a daily set 20-21psi.

As said above, electronics are good for daily and race boost. I dont believe and daily and race boost. You either boost or dont.

Whats good about most electronic boost controls is that they have more than boost settings. You can set boost spikes, create boost creeps, reduce or add turbo lag, and other crap.

Also, to reduce creep and spikes with a manual boost controller use short lines. And DO NOT use those colored silicon lines. They expand with heat causing over boosting.

I've had good experience with the older profec B spec so I'm planning on getting the profec B spec II so I can set my daily boost (low) and my race boost (high).

from the limited knowledge I have... the older B is far superior to the spec II

Oh, wow. I would have though they worked the same besides the new digital display. I'll do a little more research before I decide for sure. Thanks for your input...... Now back on Topic!

That is the easy and cheap way out yes, "work harder, not smarter" anyway that is not the reason for a electronic boost controller. You get one, so you can adjust it in the car and have two setting.

It just like having a TEIN EDFC for you Tein coilovers so you don't have to get out of you car every time to adjust the stiffness. wish the made a ss or flex kit for us, I would love that option.

.
true true. you have a point. but if you are upping the boost for good, best to go with a stiffer spring.

does the f-con have a toggle switch to store two different maps?

You don't need two maps, just tune the f-con for your max boost setting. The tune is (usually) a manifold pressure VS. RPM grid, so if for whatever reason the boost doesn't hit the maximum tuned limit, the computer doesn't care. It just adds the correct amount of fuel / timing retard for whatever boost you're at.

I was just gonna do what kelsodeez said, but after talking to my local speed shop I am gonna look for an EBC or MBC. They wanted $100 for a Tial wastegate spring... that's a bit ridiculous IMO.

I'm gonna probably get the Greddy Profec B Spec II EBC. My friend highly recommends it and he can set it up with ease.

If I went with a spring, I only have a couple of choices.. 0.5 bar (7.25psi) or 0.6 bar (8.7psi). I'd probably go with the 8.7 psi spring, but I think I'd prefer to be able to adjust my boost to where I prefer it to be.. and all the extra features of the EBC are appealing too...
