Possible to upgrade Alt to Batt cable?

I've upgraded my Batt. Neg to chassis and chassis to engine grounds with 4 AWG. Looking at the alt, it appears that there is a harness that has everything? Can't really tell. So how do I upgrade batt pos. to alt pos?

I was actually looking at this last night. It looks like the easiest way to get down in that area is to take off the whole intake manifold as it looks like the wire for the alt runs underneath it. The blue clips that hold the wire to the little metal mounts are a pain to get off. I'll look after I get off work tonight about what can be done. I'm working on a battery relocation at the moment and upgrading the alt wire as well as the primary battery wire are fairly high on the list of things to do.

it can be done with just a stubby wrench and the knowledge that you will cramp up your hand and scratch/bruise your forearm. As well as curse, swear, throw said wrench when you drop the nut that holds down the alternator wire.

Thanks Don. From your description, I'm guessing the easiest way to get to it is from the top? Would I have more luck trying to get to it from under the car?

I got it from the top. But I have short arms and big forearms. If you have long lean arms it shouldn't be too bad.

Sounds like a PIA. Running a single 600W amp and an air compressor with the stock battery. Worth the trouble? Amp is a RF T600-4 BTW.

just upgrade the battery to chassis and engine to chassis grounds and you should be fine. Unless you're runing a big compressor.

I know this is an old thread but i'm looking to do the big 3 upgrade and still can't figure out how to get to the positive output of the alternator to upgrade the wiring.

I'm guessing it would also be a good idea to let the engine cool down a bit before digging around for that output.

This was the exact same thing I was wondering about as well. I'll be doing the upgrade here probably next week as well. I've got a mechanic buddy that's going to help me out, so hopefully he'll be able to see what needs to be done.

Is 4 gauge big enough? I was originally going to do 1/0, but figured 2 should be fine. 4 would be nice as it's easy for me to get some of that size.

I'll post some pics when I do mine. It won't be for a few weeks though. I have to gather the cash to buy my alarm first.

You could use this two point grounding thread as a start.

http://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-y...nding-kit.html

I did this with leftover 8awg and there was a difference, just replaced it with 4awg and noticed another little gain in throttle response. If you don't have that much 4awg laying around you can eliminate the long run from the battery to the block and replace it with a short length from the battery to the chassis near the stock grounding location.
