In the Fit specifically, what direction should I have the driver and port face? I have seen them pointing towards the rear, towards the roof and towards the opposite side... I'm building a custom enclosure so I have a choice now, but once the box is made I likely won't be able to rotate it and still have it fit in different orientations.
In case it matters, the driver is a Diamond Audio HP10 getting 600w RMS. It will almost certainly be a ported box tuned to 30-32 hz.

i played around with it a bit, and it sounds the best with it just facing the back of the hatch off to the side. i made my own cargo cover too so the cargo area is more "trunk like" which also helps.

Really? The sound actually improved by blocking off the top? My experience was always that subs in a separate trunk had to be way more powerful and still sounded a bit muffled compared to one in the same air compartment like you get with a hatch. Of course, I'm assuming your lid isn't air tight like a real trunk would be, just surprised that you said it improved the sound.
I did sub up port back, as its generally one of the louder possibilities. I havent tried any other ways but its definitely loud. about 750-800W RMS to the 10"
I'm a complete car audio noob, but I thought the port and woofer were supposed to be on the same side in most cases? Did you intentionally point them in different directions?
they can be wherever they need/you want them to be. Its more of a wave/physics thing. In my case the sub produces waves that go upward and reflect off the roof/hatch and go forward. the ports wave reflect off the hatch and then go forward. Do some google searching about ported box designs or the different configurations. The louder ones in hatches should be: port back sub back, port back sub up and port up sub up.
Dude, at that frequency and volume, I really don't think it'll matter at all which direction the sub is pointed. I'm running a 10 inch DV 4 ohm wired at 2 ohm getting 400 watts RMS, tuned to 80hz, and I can barely notice a difference when I change orientation.
I'm assuming you don't want to hear your bass, just feel it?

It is more of a SPL rather than SQ setup. Granted it still sounds amazing imo. It does matter what direction the sub and port are facing. If they were say sub facing the passenger side and the port facing the driver side the waves produced would be mostly moving side to side rather than going forward to where the driver is. I can even tell the difference in my current set up when moving it forward about 3-4 inches, so id say it matters.
