Im sure that this must have been covered somewhere on the forum but i cant find it!
I really like my new (well new to me) fit but I would like it even more if it had blue dials to go with the red needles! Ive taken the dial cluster out and then realised I needed to take the needles off and chickened out! Someone must have replaced the bulbs/LEDs/filter to change the colour of the dials? Can someone give me some guidance towards the parts I need and the best way to take the needles off?
no, i meant the main instrument display, speedo, fuel etc but this looks cool as well! I might do that as well when i finally manage to find a DIN fascia for my old school 2002 fit/jazz!
Surely im not the only one out there who has wanting to change the color of the dial lights? Ive spent AGES searching the net for this and cant find anything!
Yeah I agree it will more than likely be bulbs and not LEDs but I want to replace them anyway and I cant get to them. Ive taken the whole cluster out and still cant see them. Im pretty sure the needles need to come off but thats why i was wondering if anyone has already done this?

if at the back of the cluster, you don't see the little plastic pieces with Phillips head receivers moulded in, there's no lightbulbs. it's an EL panel. even LED's use bulb sockets for ease of replacement

Yeah, if it is using an EL panel and not LEDs or bulbs then that might explain why I cant find any mention of the colour change online! Thats a damn shame, blue would look so much better than pale orange!
And that is exactly why its such a shame if they really cant be changed, because everyone likes things different!
I am going to do the blue lights in the centre console tho, that will help at least!
Do the newer Fit/Jazz have blue dash lights then?
i have been looking for a gauge cluster to play with such as printing and bulbs but every one wants to sell me a salvaged one for like 160... i think i might just crack my good one open
theres about 6 leds arranged in a circle around the needle (for the speedo and tach)
and a few others on the gas gauge--
but yea, they are little square panel mounted leds- and are white
you can TRY and use a sharpie = but it prolly wont work that well
granted anything thats white will take on the color, but depending on what color you use the leds will only light up that same color on the lens
meaning ;;;
a blue sharpie on the leds will not light up the red needle,
only the blue circle and the white lines(as blue)
or... a red sharpie will only light the needle and the white dashes(as red), and your blue circles will almost have no illumination at all

... so just incase you missed it within all that crazy nonsense i just posted-
they are mounted on the panel, and cant be removed easily,
and yes, the needles need to be taken off to access the LEDs
the actual gauge face that you see with the numbers on it is only a flexible piece of plastic...
however,
the needles need to be taken off in order to separate the front of the gauges to the back, as there is a pin that connects the two

I realise that I am flogging this subject a little but im just trying to collect as much info as possible before I dive in!
If they are surface mounted LEDs on the PCB, and they are white, is the orange colour being generated by the plastic cover or do you guys have different colour dials to me? Mine are orange with red needles. (ive got a UK 2002 model)
I would like them to be blue with red needles. I guess white and red would be ok tho.
Also, if you have already taken the needles off, can you describe the best way of doing that without causing any damage to? Ive got the cluster on my desk here and I have to admit, im a little apprehensive about pulling the needles!
