AJ, our Fit is a CVT. During this trip we covered about 500 miles total and got just a little over 44 mpg. If I'm doing 55 mph on a steady basis, I can get 47 mpg. If I do 69 mph on a steady basis, then it falls off and I can hardly ever do better than 44 mpg, maybe even a little less. I should add that the AC was on just a little bit of the time on this trip, but the eco mode is always on.

One other factor on this trip: the Delmarva is flat as a pancake, as is South Jersey where I live. Also very little city traffic on this trip.

One day during our trip we took a ride across the Delmarva Peninsula to the town of Cambridge, Maryland on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Plenty of parking this time of year, but as the weather warms this place will be booming.

A replica of the Choptank River lighthouse was constructed at the end of Long Wharf Park in Cambridge just a few years ago.

I have read about eighteen of James Michener's books and one of his best is Chesapeake, set along the Choptank River. I have passed through the Delmarva innumerable times, but this was my first time viewing the Choptank. Patamoke was the name of the fictional town where Michener's story took place, but it was set in this vicinity.

Cambridge, which is somewhat remote, has been through many booms and busts, and these impressive homes were built during the times when money flowed here thanks to the richness of the Chesapeake Bay and fertile surrounding farmland. Tourism is a contributing factor nowadays too.

My wife and I are budget travelers so we often like to eat at mom and pop joints such as diners. We ate at this place outside of Cambridge, Maryland on Route 50. A salad bar was part of the deal, and so was dessert. And judging by the crowd inside, the locals enjoy this place too.

After lunch we took a ride into the countryside near Cambridge and stopped at a nature center devoted to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake. Harriet Tubman of the Underground Railroad was born in this vicinity too.

We parked right next to a yellow 3rd Generation Fit, which happened to be from suburban Philadelphia. I met the owner inside a few minutes later and we chatted about how much we enjoy our Fits. (You know how it is among owners.)

About a half-dozen miles west of OCMD is the town of Berlin, Maryland, which is one of the best preserved and pretty towns on the Delmarva Peninsula. I pulled up in front of the old hotel for a shot of my Fit.

Berlin's main drag looks like a scene out of an Edward Hopper painting. It's so picturesque that several movies have been filmed here including Runaway Bride and Tuck Everlasting.

Well, that's about it for my report on this road trip. Get out there and enjoy your Fit too.

Silver Surfer, I've been away from from the forum for a long time and just got back and saw this travelogue—which is terrific! Great job! And it's nice how you worked in fit related copy everywhere.

All these places are driving distance from where I live I've visited quite a few of them in the past—as well as many others you haven't mentioned here. But you also give me quite a few to consider that I haven't yet seen. Taking a page from your trip, I especially recommend West Point to anyone who can get there (make sure to visit the free museum as well as take the bus tour). And while in the area, Storm King, the FDR library, the Vanderbilt mansion, and the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome are a short distance away so you can make a long weekend of it.

There's just so much to see in this part of country and I agree that the fit is perfect for it in terms of economy, practicality and drivability in all situations. I hope to read about more of your travels.

k-n, thanks for your comments. When I get the chance I do want to visit the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome since I enjoy seeing first generation aircraft and learning more about them. Another of my favorites is Tarrytown.

You have a nice looking car! Happy travels in it.

Jaeger, thanks for your nice comment. Some explanation...

I have not posted any road trip photos for a few months but have had the Fit to the Jersey Shore many times for the beach and boardwalk and found some great free parking spots that other people could not squeeze into. Even saw a Beach Boys concert in Ocean City, NJ -- cross that off the bucket list! My wife and I also enjoyed a week at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with a side trip to Charleston, but that doesn't count as a Fit trip since we flew down from Philly and rented a Hyundai, which I found not to be as all-around convenient as our Fit.

However, we just returned from a road trip to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with a side trip to the south Boston area and I'll be posting a few shots. We covered a little under 1,200 miles round-trip and averaged 42.7 mpg.

Since we live in South Jersey I took the George Washington Bridge in NYC on the way north and the crosstown traffic was a nightmare. On the way back south we decided to try the Tappan Zee Bridge above NYC and traffic was somewhat better, even though the old bridge is still in use, with the new one still under construction. Anyway, we made it and the Fit performed well.

Some pictures when I get the chance...

A good place to use as a base for touring Cape Cod and vicinity is Hyannis, which is located on a beautiful bay. There are hotels at every price point, and the same goes for restaurants.

You can also catch a ferry out to the famous island of Martha's Vineyard. It is cheaper though to leave your car on the mainland and take the tour bus around the island. Nantucket Island can also be reached from here, but is more expensive. Best to get a hotel near the ferry and save on parking fees.

We like to spend at least one day on the beach if the weather is nice. During the summer months they charge for parking, but in the shoulder seasons it is free in Hyannis, which my Fit took advantage of. This one just out of town near the Kennedy memorial also has a picnic grove adjacent to it.

Did I mention that we usually pack our lunch and save the money for restaurants in the evenings?

Every town on Cape Cod has its own personality, and among the classiest is Chatham, located at the elbow. At least parking is free along the main street.

If you're looking for classic New England architecture, Chatham is the place to find it. If Grandma Moses didn't paint this scene, she should have.

Edward Hopper summered on Cape Cod and liked to drive around painting lighthouses. So I figured I'd stop at the one in Chatham and take a picture of my Fit with it.

One evening we decided to take a ride to the famous town of Wood's Hole, at the southwestern end of Cape Cod, which is quite famous for being a center for oceanographic research. So I saw a parking spot, pulled into it, and there off to my right was the...

Research Vessel Neil Armstrong, named after the first man to walk on the moon, and which is owned by the U.S. Navy. It went into service in 2015 and is operated by the Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institution.

You just never know what you're going to see when tooling around in your Fit!

One day we drove north on the Massachusetts mainland from our base in Hyannis to visit a few sites associated with American presidents. The JFK Presidential Library is located along the southern shore of Boston Harbor. I particularly enjoyed seeing up-close JFK's dog tags and the famous coconut he carved with a message resulting in the rescue of himself and his PT boat crew during World War II.

I like to think the building's architect I.M. Pei would appreciate the design of our Fit.

South of Boston is the city of Quincy, where our second president John Adams was born and spent his retirement years. To visit his homes you have to utilize a shuttle trolley bus that starts at the National Visitors Center in downtown Quincy, which is quite congested. Make sure you get your parking ticket from the hi-rise garage validated!!!!

John Adams' birthplace is a saltbox style dating from 1681. There is another house next door where he resided later. If you have never seen the HBO series or read the John Adams biography by David McCullough, do so.

After retirement John Adams lived in this house, at another location in Quincy. His son and also president John Quincy Adams resided here. A building constructed later on the grounds houses their extensive collection of books.

Getting close to the end, but more to follow...

One of the great pleasures of a journey in your Fit is discovering a nice dining spot, such as the Sagamore Inn Restaurant at 1131 Route 6A in Sagamore, Massachusetts, not far from the canal in western Cape Cod, or what the locals call "up Cape," even though it is the lower end geographically. It is also nearby the the beautiful town of Sandwich.

The Sagamore Inn was established in 1900 with the current building dating to 1930, looking much like a movie set from that era. Was that Bogie I saw in there?

My wife and I both enjoyed New England chowder, which was on our must-do list, plus some seafood entrees. And they serve some nice crusty bread with it too. Also important, the menu had a price point for everyone.

That's about it for now. Get out there and enjoy your Fit on a road trip!

Mr. I, thanks for your nice comment. We have had our 2015 Fit EX CVT nearly two years now, having bought it in December 2014. It now has 32K miles on it and we have enjoyed every mile. Yesterday afternoon, for example, we took two of our grandchildren to the Boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ.

When we first bought our Fit I drove to the spot at Rowan University in South Jersey where my wife and I met in 1965 to take this selfie posted above, which I use as my signature photo. When I was young I always wanted to live in future, and now I do -- driving a futuristic car.

By the way, back then I was driving a '57 Chevy Nomad.

My Fit visits a classic slice of roadside Americana located on Route 40 between the towns of Elmer and Malaga in rural South Jersey. Plenty of good diners located nearby too.

Awesome thread! While I always enjoy seeing people mod their FITS and what they do to make them unique there is something very pleasing about seeing a stock FIT surrounded by beautiful scenery. Love all the pics, many of them could pass for magazine/catalog/poster quality! I also enjoy the commentary about where you've been and how well the FIT treated you getting you there and back. Now that the weather is getting nice, I hope to see more of your travels in 2017!
