New 2006 Honda Civic

The new 2006 Honda Civic was announced. It has the same project leader as the ingenious Jazz/Fit which should make it a very interesting automobile.

Honda has released the first details of the next generation Honda Civic, which will go on sale in January 2006.

The styling is quite radical for a Civic, although some elements will be familiar from other cars (e.g. the Alfa-style hidden door handles). It looks particularly modern from the front where the conventional grille is replaced by a wide glass panel. Unusually, the new Civic is shorter and lower than its predecessor: now Honda has the FR-V compact MPV, the Civic no longer needs to offer maximum interior height. Packaging is still good however: like the Honda Jazz, it puts the fuel tank below the front seats, which enables a lower boot floor.

All models will include climate control, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), trip computer, front, side and curtain airbags, rake and reach adjustable steering column and Jazz-style rear 'Magic' seats. There will be three engines: 1.4 litre petrol with 83 bhp, 1.8 litre petrol with 140 bhp and 2.2 litre diesel with 140 bhp.

NOTE: That's European market of new Civic..

I'm pretty sure that it won't come into US market.....

The one in US market,
140HP, 1.8L, new R-series engine with i-VTEC, for the regular sedan/coupe
210HP, 2.0L, K20 engine, for the SI...

I saw the recent Autoweek that said the next Civic Si coupe will have the 200hp Vtec engine.
We thought our first chance to see the next Honda Civic Si coupe would come this fall when it is expected to make its premiere at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas. But our spies have captured the production-ready car a few months ahead of Honda’s schedule.

Looking much like the concept that Honda showed at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year (AW, Feb. 21), we expect just a few minor production changes, including adding functional door handles and a huge exhaust tip.

The Si will be powered by a 200-hp VTEC four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Look for it in showrooms late this year.

The new Civic Si coupé probably using a modified version of the 2.0-liter i-VTEC DOHC motor used on the Acura RSX Type-S.

I wouldn't be surprised that a true Civic Type-R to be sold in Europe will use a 2.4-liter K-series engine rated at around 230-235 bhp (SAE certified). That will likely result in a car with a top speed around 250 km/h (155 mph).
