We've updated the our reliability stats for the Fit to include owner experiences through December 31, 2012.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 15

2007: 30

Both remain low.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

2008: 85, less than one

2007: 74, less than one

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. Excellent participation by Fit owners. The more owners participate, the more precise the our reliability stats.

Part of why I got a Fit

My last car was an '04 GTI 1.8T. I really liked it but at the end, about 170,000 miles, it was burning oil prodigiously and the transmission only had a few hundred miles left on it. When my mechanic was giving me the news about the transmission we started discussing new cars. He had access to a database for mechanics that recorded maintenance cost for different cars. He told me straight up, don't get another VW. He's been a VW mechanic since 1973! He told me don't get any european car. I asked what he did recommend. He said anything else. I said, "Seriously, you'd recommend a chevy over a vw?" He took me to his computer and we looked at average annual cost of repairs/maintenance for VWs, BMWs, and Mercedes, and then looked and Fords and Chevys. The difference was huge. Then we looked at hondas. They were better still but he was right the difference between the Euro cars and the American cars was much bigger than the difference between the American cars and the Japanese cars.

It really made me sad. I've had 3 VWs and two Porsches (all but the GTI were purchased used). I thought of myself as a german car guy. The only other time I've had a Japanese car was my 1966 Landcruiser bought in 1986 for $700. Talk about a noisy car!

I don't remember what the database was called, but I think it was part of his pro-mechanic biz software package. The data was clearly encyclopedic. Anyway it definitely pushed me into considering options I might not have otherwise.

It's hard to walk away from European car once you have taken a test drive... I bought a 2007 VW Passat Wagon 2.0T two weeks ago.. It is a pleasure to drive on long trips which is what I bought it to do.. I have only driven it a few times, have put 500 miles on it.. German and Swedish cars seem to fit me better than anything else.. 200 miles in my Fit is hard on my body.

I think it's sad that German cars like VW "ain't that great" anymore. When I bought my first new car, it was a 1971 Ford Pinto, with the 2000 CC 4cyl made by Ford of Germany. I wanted that engine because back then, German engineering was what Japanese engineering is today. I always loved the VW hatchbacks of the mid 70's and wish I'd bought one. Times change I guess. Am very happy with my Fit.

Japanese cars, trucks, motorcycles, scooters watercraft ATVs and tractors are superior too any other of the same made anywhere else on the planet.. Perhaps BMW motorcycles are an exception.. Most people that own them are eccentric tinkerers that enjoy keeping what they own in tip top condition, so maybe not.

Performance and reliability are two different things. Overall, European cars continue to perform better than others. But the Fit is reliable even when compared to other Hondas.

Are you a member of our site and, if so, did you report this through the survey?

"No repairs" is not nothing. In fact, it seems to be something people really like about a car

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the Fit to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2015 Fit: 14, low
2013 Fit: 0, low
2012 Fit: 3, low
2011 Fit: 7, low
2010 Fit: 11, low
2009 Fit: 15, low
2008 Fit: 17, low
2007 Fit: 31, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2013 Fit: 100, < 1
2012 Fit: 97, < 1
2011 Fit: 92, < 1
2010 Fit: 90, < 1
2009 Fit: 84, < 1
2008 Fit: 89, < 1
2007 Fit: 72, 2

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

To view the new graphs, select "reliability trends" in the breadcrumbs at the top of the linked page. The trend lines are especially flat for the Fit.
