Another deposit placed

Hi Gang,

This is my second post in this forum. I just made my deposit on a vivid blue pearl '08 fit that was manufactured on 6/16 somewhere in Japan and is now on it's way across the ocean and should arrive in my garage by 7/20.

I'm total cheapskate when it comes to cars, and something of an environmentalist, too, having always bought used, high mileage, cars up to this point. My other two Hondas have been a '90 Civic LX (smooshed by my wife, alas and replaced by an '02 Civic LX) and a '94 Civic Hatchback DX, which I have owned and loved for 9 years. Alas, a freak accident occurred (the not so old timing belt broke and the interference engine went kablooey).

Ergo, for the first time in my life, I've decided to go new.

Ever since I saw a Fit cruising the stree a year and a half or so ago, I knew it would be my next car. I knew this because it seemed the perfect, uh, fit for my odd hobby, which involves lugging a large telescope out to remote corners of my state and glaring at very faint patches of light while serving as a target for blood-sucking insects.

Picture of telescope here:

Being a Honda lover, accustomed to regular 40ish MPH on my '94 Civic (achieved by driving like your grandmother... not mine, however, she was a speed freak) I was a bit disappointed to learn that the Fit's presumed mileage was significantly lower. However, I was heartened to learn that, with careful driving, others have achieved '94 civic-like figures in their somewhat roomier Fit- and the Fit has added safety features, which I had not considered important until now.

Anyway, I'm thrilled to join the Fit club. Can't wait to take my pet Llama out for a spin and to take my telescope out under the sky.

Has anyone gone camping in their Fit?

I can tell you've been doing some reading on Fitfreak! Congrat's on the new car purchase. You're going to love the Fit. We traded in a '95 Civic lx for our Fit and have been thrilled ever since. The Civic had a slightly smoother ride and got slightly better mileage, BUT the Fit is 100x more fun, more roomy, handles better, looks better, and won our hearts.

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it... but I'm wondering how easy it will be to get that into the Fit... I don't currently own one, so I'm probably not a good judge of that, but that telescope is huge! I'm sure it will fit though

Fitfreak was one of the deciding factors for our purchase.

On Fitfreak, you get the usual share of complaints about the car. The major difference is instead of complaints about coil packs failing, transmissions blowing up, head gaskets blowing, etc. You get complaints about cheap carpet, thin paint, and lack of armrests and dead pedals.

Those complaints are usually followed with "but, I love my car." We have a little over 7,000 miles on ours now and like it more every day.

Well, the telescope breaks down into pieces, which you assemble on site. It takes me about 8 minutes. The whole thing fit nicely, but snugly, into the back of my '94 Civic Hatchback. The Fit leaves room for stuff like, oh, camping supplies without, I imagine, making me feel like I did when I crammed everything I owned into a car on my way to my first day of college. Plus, there's that Llama. :-)

The Fit is a very versatile car indeed! Here's a couple of pictures from my recent camping trip with the Fit (hadn't even gotten my DMV tags yet!). It performed very well indeed, but it did struggle a bit going up through Highway 108 into the Sierra mountains.. but going downhill was fun!!

My Fit used to be red, honest!
