I would rather have both. I already own the Fit and love it. But it would be nice to have a more powerful car with a slightly more upscale ride for long road trips and such. But if I could only choose one, I would have to go with the Fit because of it's flexibility and I totally love hatchbacks.

If you're not getting the Civic EX then get the Fit. The Fit is like the smaller version of the EX. Good gas mileage and speed. The LX is a good family economy car, but so is the Fit. It can be sporty or a family car.

The Civic is an overall nicer car with more features. If power or amenities are important, you'll want to look at the Civic. The Fit is more of an economy car with some nice amenities for the price range. Now if cargo capacity and versatility matter to you, then the Fit is the way to go. Either way you should drive both and see which you like better.

I'm having the same issue. I love the new Civic, but was greatly looking forward to the arrival of the Fit. Then the Fit styling was changed too much from the Japanese one I had come to love for the past 4+ years. I still like it, but today I sat in a Civic LX Coupe and it seemed like a sports car compared to the Fit. Low slung, racy seats, awesome gauges... I even like the wheel cover style on the Civic better than the alloys on the Fit (I'm crazy, I know). And of course everything seemed slightly more upscale in the Civic... but the price wasn't that much higher. Now it has me wondering. I guess I have no conclusion yet, but I just wanted to post because I fell into the same predicament as the original poster, Wu-Zi.

Fit Sport automatic - $16,520
Civic LX Coupe automatic - $17,860
So for an extra $1300 the Civic has more hp and better fuel economy, plus is sportier inside and out (IMO).
Not that I don't like the Fit... I definitely do, and it has its advantages as well... it's just a toss-up.
If the Fit was a little cheaper it would be the winner, but unfortunately I have to pay for some stuff I don't want (bodykit, wheels, foglights) just to get cruise control and remote entry.

maybe it's just me, but i think civics are so boring nowadays... they're everywhere! whereas with my fit, i feel like part of a secret car society since there are not a lot being purchased yet (at least around here). who knows- maybe the fit will become the next civic... i sure hope not though.

i think that the FIT will have better aftermarket back up...everyone has a civic now and it feels nice having the new different thing that just came out. I like my FIT and like how it looks better than the civic...my bro got an ex 2 door thats galaxy grey and all he says is that they are all over the place...FITs will be around shortly, but i at least get to enjoy the difference for now

Here up north, the LX Civic is actually equal to the Fit after intrest and negotiation (Fit price is close to fixed)
Plus you get more out of the Canadian LX than the US one (16 inch alloys for one)
Yet I still chose the Fit.

I think that in most parts of Canada, someone could haggle more off the Civic LX than a Fit Sport, making the price difference irrelevant. Our Civic LX includes 16” alloy wheels, not sure why someone was talking about hub caps. Plus the Civic currently has a 2% rebate on the interest rate if you own another Honda vehicle.
I need cargo room, so I chose the Fit. A co-worker has a Civic LX, and it’s a very nice car!
