Yup, it can tow!

After a series of small, seemingly inconsequential decisions, I faced a move across the US. It's 2600 miles from California to Pennsylvania... I don't have a ton of stuff, but more than will fit in my car alone.

Enter - Harbor Freight Trailer! I installed lights and a license plate, and checked the wheel bearings.

It tows fine unloaded... but with all my stuff on it? And for 2600 miles? Here it is halfway up the Sierras, quite the Carolina Squat going on. But it's not on the bump stops.

And it turns out it CAN do it! Even up the Sierras - some of the grades were 3rd gear at 45 mph, but the car didn't overheat or skip a beat. Somewhere in Utah.

So yes.. the Fit can tow! After four 12-13 hour days, I made it to my destination in Pennsylvania. 24-34 mpg, depending on wind/rain/hills. Surely took a few years off my Fit, but damn, what a car! Oh - and it's got 257,000 miles on it!

Well done! That's what cars are made for! And it certainly didn't took years off it. High load highway driving is not wearing the car even nearly as much as daily cold starts followed by urban driving.

Congrats on your trip. That's quite an accomplishment for the miles on your car. Mines a California car too, but I had it shipped here a few months ago. If you plan on keeping it make sure you get it oiled/undercoated before winter. PA roads are brutal on cars.

While I don't tow them long distances, I do tow my Jetski, and ATV with my Fit.
Just yesterday I towed my Can Am Outlander ATV 17 kilometers, rode it, then towed it back home.

Could you show pics of the trailer hookups you put on the car? I'd love to do this with mine for music festivals that have camping.
