Coilover Conundrum

I have an 08 GD3 Fit and was looking to get a nice coilover kit for around $1k however, when I look online there are only incredibly cheap (and therefore pretty bad) or overtly expensive kits that are WAYYY out of my poor college student price range. I wanted to get a nice pair of Tein Z Flex's but they only make them for the GE6/8 models and I was wondering if you could still install these on a GD3 with little to no modifications, or if y'all have any suggestions on coilover kits that are around $1K?
Thanks!

Check out megan racing, I assume they still make them, I got mine in august 2022. I got mine off redline 360, Megan racing EZ coilovers
… side note: I am either retiring my fit (rip, but she blew out a spark plug. Right out of the cylinder on the freeway Boom!)
either retiring or selling, not sure yet. Those coilovers only have like 5-7k miles on em.

Take your time, penny pinch up, and buy some decent or better suspension right out the gate. You'll be happier that you did since you'd be saving yourself headache and money later down the road (if you end up replacing the mediocre/cheap suspension). It's the classic case of "buy once, cry once".

GE suspension may bolt up but isn't the correct length for GDs. If memory serves me right, GE stock suspension actually lifts the GD 1 inch and there may be an issue with sway bar end link location. I've long slept since seeing it but its somewhere in the forum... From 10+ years ago. lol

With that said... A little over 10 years ago, I personally was on the hunt for coilovers. I actually ordered a set of Buddy Club coilovers but there were complications with both parts acquisition to build them AND quality. Being in a time crunch and being dissatisfied with the market options I took an old, tried and tested approach. Acquire a GOOD set of struts/shocks and get Ground Control's coilover conversion kit.

So... I picked up the Ground Controls for about $500 bucks shipped (link below) and ran them with Tokico HTS adjustable dampers (long discontinued, was just shy of a grand back then easily $1300 IF you can find them now). No complains since I could pick my spring rate, adjust ride height, and with the Tokicos adjust my valving for street use or track events. Best investment at that time.

These adjustment sleeves simply slip onto the front struts and bolt into the rear spring perch. Their applications work with KYB, SACH, Tokico and other damper manufactures. If you're looking for a simple option for daily use with stock like driving characteristics then this may be an option... ESPECIALLY if you have fresh struts and shocks on the car. If struts/shocks are aged or blown then you may still want consider an off the shelf kit like BC's, Megan's, or some other company.

Just research accordingly see what fits your needs as well as dabble around to find reviews on their products.

Best of luck, I hope some of this helps.

Dude, why do I constantly forget about these?? Do you remember what spring rates you went with? Im currently running a 6.4kg spring in the rear which I dont mind TOO much but I think knocking down to under 5.5kg would take some of the edge off without sacrificing too much (for daily duty). My thought process was I can always firm the ride up a bit with the HTS but doesnt seem to work well the other way around.

I daily drove 500 lb springs front and rear which is about 8.8k. It was super comfy yet firm and supportive which is exactly what I want suspension wise... Think German performance sedan comfy/firm like the E60 5 series or E9X 3 series with their Sport package suspension.

Depending on the course I'd either run the same setup if it was a higher speed road course event or bump up to 650 lb springs in the rear. I had no issues with the setup until I took out the left front strut years ago the day after getting the car corner balanced and aligned. Been passively watching the market for something equal or better since then. -.-

I believe forum member @JaySmith acquired a set of HTSs with Ground Controls and running a rather soft spring rate. So far they enjoy them after they got them years ago... Haven't heard anything else in like 5ish years afterwards though.
