205/55/r16 on gen 1 fit
Hey guys! I've recently got a fit and the tires are getting dry rot, the current ones on the car are 205/45/r16 and everywhere I call they don't have anything in stock and online there's only noname brands in my price range. But I've found a good deal on need Goodyear 205/55/r16 that are twice as cheap as getting the stock size. Is this a viable pick? The suspension is fully stock but its old and tired. I know the gen 2 runs similar size so the suspension geometry should be similar and the only cons is higher speedo reading and a bit slower acceleration?
Thank you!
Thank you!
55 should be okay but I definitely recommend 205 50 16 since it’s very close to stock and is just .1 inch taller and .4inches wider in total. I am running in continental xtreme contact and it’s running great. No tire rubs
Tight squeeze
So… that’s gonna be 2” taller than the factory tire size and about a half inch wider on either side.
I ran 1.5” taller than factory(225/60r15) on my 2010 one winter and they rubbed EVERYWHERE so no, I don’t think 205/55r16 are gonna fit your first gen very well.
I’m sure they’d look dope though.

I do agree with running the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus (long winded tire name Hahaha). Haven't had any complaints from their initial batch of DWSs around 2009/2010 to now.

Gen 2 and 3 (GE and GK) run the OE size of 185/55R16s or the accessory size 205/50R16 which float around the O.D. of 24 to 24.2 inches.
Depending on your wheel width and offset, you'll be much more susceptible to experiencing tire rub on sharp enough road oscillations and/or when loaded with passengers or cargo.
The general (and well known) rule with 205s on first gen Fits is when you are at stock height with a 7 inch wide wheel, you're safe to go with an offset as low as +42mm. If lowered, you're safe to go with an offset as low as +45mm. Numerically lower than that, you are more susceptible to tire rub even with the slight variance that each Fit has.
Going with the 205/55R16s is not a wise idea in my opinion. You'll definitely be at risk for tire rub since they're about a 25 inch tire in O.D.
This is better advice than mine lol.
Nope, it'll be too tall for the first gen. Would work fine for the second and third gens though.

Gen 1 (GD chassis) run 205/45R16s as the original equipped accessory tire size. They're about 23.2 to 23.5 inches in O.D. depending on tire selection.
