Carpet bit@hes!

so as i cross over to 40k on my fit i have noticed that the carpet by the footwell(where a dead pedal should be) has gotten consistenly flappier.

when i first bought the fit, i knew that its carpet was not of the highest caliber, and that it did not seem to have been laid out properly in this portion of the car.

it almost seems like there is not enough of it, but that didn't matter, and it was put on anyway. any attempts to stretch it out so that it lays flat are useless.

sooo.....

anyone know how much it is to rip out carpet and get nicer, more 'expansive' i guess, carpet installed?

yah, the best bet might be to get some EZ felt and hot glue it like a patch,
then install the zeta deadpedal over it.

im not sure wat honda was thinking when they did the carpeting on our
cars but it is a PITA to keep clean. the fibers just grab hold of the grit..

i guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping it, and how much the job would be.

kenchan:that soundsl like a good idea, but the grim and grit that stays stuck is a whole othe problem that i hadn't even thought of, but thanks for bringing it up.

i was considering leather seats on the fit, just because of all the crap ( and my beagles hair) that gets everywhere. maybe the mugen seat covers would resolve that a little too.

so no thoughts on prices anyone?

yeah mugen seat covers are super nice and they're still like 700ish for the set.

i also heard they don't fit perfect (but they do fit the seats) on the usdm Fits and i also would shit bricks if i got them dirty

I want to hit the lottery and then it would be new Mugen Racing Seats

and then new carpet installed. Would that not be sweet??? I bet these seats would not even fit in the Fit.

I almost wish they had just used rubber if they are gonna be cheap enough on the carpet like they have it they may as well have put a drain plug and rubber flooring so I could Hose it out. Probably be easier than vacuuming all the crap that is attracted to the fit. It's by far the dirtiest car inside and out I have ever owned. It ATTRACTS dirt and lint and fuzz. I think its magnetized

best bet would to look for some remnants, and then just use cardboard as a template, or construction paper, and make super plush footwells

I just about have a hole in the carpet where the dead pedal should be, only 22,000 miles on the car. I also use cruise control a lot and I always set my right foot on that little ledge on the floor, in front of the seat, right where the track for the seat ends; and there's a hole forming there too. <-- Anyone else get that?

Perhaps if we were to request that ACC start selling something for the Fit? They've been around forever, and I know they sell a decent product.

I think it'd just be easier (and cheaper) to buy OEM floormats, IMHO.

The carpeting is a joke. A cost saver no doubt. I would have been happier had they simply installed plastic ala the Element. I took matters into my own hands and simply installed the WeatherTech floor liners. A big improvement imo. Thanks to this thread and subsequent recommendations, I have ordered the Zeta dead pedal to hopefully prevent what you are experiencing. I have already noticed that the "carpet" looks worn in that area and the car has only 7500 miles on it.

I have 2 spare charcoal interiors for my accord. When the time comes that i get a hole I'm gonna cut up my OEM honda accord carpet which is thicker and has more sound dampening. Win Win

I put in a 3M Nomad floor mat set on mine. I had had enough of the flimsy OEM floor mat and carpet that wasn't really effective both in staying flat in one place and in keeping clean.

The Nomad mats are usefully heavy and plush enough to keep their flatness and suck up dirt. They feel nice when you step on them barefoot, too Cleaning is easy, just hang them on a clothesline, scrub with some soap and run them over with a hose. Let dry and put 'em back in.

This is the closest I got to a proper link for the US:

Here's a photo of my 3M Nomad car mats. I hope you can buy these pre-cut for most cars, because that's how I got them

at 35,000 mine is doing something not mentioned. The carper and lower pad on the drive wheel well is pulling away and heads toward the clutch peddle. Left on it's own it kind of develops a overlap of it self in that crevice of the well to the floor. I have not looked to a real fix just an annoying thing. I typically take my foot and pull it back up and tuck the end back under the plastic wall cover above the fender well.

Has anyone had that and fond a good fix?
