On average, do you do your own oil changes?

On average, what type of oil do you use?

 

Absolutely do my own. It's a ridiculously easy way to save some money, and of ensuring you know exactly what's going in your car.

I use AMSoil 0w20 synthetic, change every 15k miles. I'd go longer if my work commute was farther than 2 miles.

 

Where do you get your Amsoil? Seems pretty expensive online

I plan on doing it myself with Synthetic from now on. I agree with a previous post that it is very easy with the right tools.

 

With a preferred customer membership you get dealer pricing, and then it's no more expensive than any other full synthetic - even after shipping. I paid $65 shipped for my first oil change with this car (4 qts. & a filter), and that included the 6 month membership. Before it expires, I'll be ordering another 8 quarts & 2 filters . . . so it'll end up costing roughly $150 to take care of my oil needs for the first 3 years of ownership.

 

I've been changing it since around 3750 miles or so, first change I went to Royal Purple 5w20 with a HAMP filter and I've done the same everytime I get to about 10% oil life.

 

You might want to go to Walmart and check out their synthetic oil prices. I bought four quarts of Pennzoil platinum for $16. I bought Honda Filters from H&A for about $5 each with shipping and tax (I got six at once). Thus I pay $21 for a full synthetic oil and filter change.

Many other full synthetics are $21 to $26 for 5 quart jugs. You would have to measure carefully for the Fit, but you seem pretty handy. The $26 is for Mobil 1, $21 is for Valvoline and Castrol full synthetics.

I've never seen Amsoil *anywhere*, so if you're happy with that brand you are probably getting a good deal on it. It is a highly regarded oil (so is Pennzoil Platinum on "Bob Is the Oil Guy" btw)

 

i've been changing my own oil since my Fit rolled off the dealer lot. 5w-30, mobile 1 full synthetic, mobile 1 filter, and i change my oil every 10k

i can't understand why anyone would stick with a conventional oil; synthetic costs much less in the long run

 

I do my own.honda filter and castrol SLX synthetic 5w30.working in a dealer i see way too many stripped plugs roll through and dont trust anyone to do mine.

 

royal purple and mobil1 filter. change it around 20-30% oil life. even though I do it myself, it is not that cheap using rp LOL

I wait til Oil Life is at 20%. I go with Valvoline 5W20 with HAMP filter

 

on the FitS's i do it when the obc shows 15% using M1 silver cap using factory filter. since the 09 has a free one-time dealer
oil change coupon, i'll let them do it.

on my other cars i just chance it once in the spring using M1 silver
and factory filters since i only drive them less than 7k miles/yr.

BP Visco 7000 5W30

 

I let the dealer do it on our Fit for the warranty, but on my S2000 I change my own oil mostly using M1 10w-30 HM.

 

m1 5w30 and purolator pureone oil filters...although im switching to the new castrol oil after seeing bearing wear testing....and sticking with purolator pureone oil filters....well because they are the best.

 

Royal Purple and K&N filters here. Change when the monitor gets to about 10% Good oil and good filter is the surest way to ensure a healthy Honda beyond 100,000 miles (and I plan on going there at least twice!)

 

They could be giving the oil away for free . . . I still wouldn't want to go to Walmart. A trip to that place is a guaranteed way to ruin my day.

AMSoil is the only oil I know of that advertises a 25k mile oil change interval (or 15k under crap driving conditions), which is why I use it. Fewer chores = happy me.

 

even the supertech synthetic from walmart is better then that overhyped amsoil
