Sound from Front Suspension?

I purchased my 2008 SSM Fit Sport last August. Almost every time I hit a bump or a pothole while slowing down/braking/stopping I hear a "springy" "boing" sound that seems to come from the front suspension.

I can't really tell if it's from the driver or passenger side, but I was hoping to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Am I worrying over nothing...do I need to just spray some WD-40...or do I have a problem with my Fit?

Thanks for any and all advice.

is your fit lowered? regardless, to me it sounds as if the spring is not seated properly. spraying wd40 will not likely be a fix for it.

Do you have any suspension mods?
Check if your sway bar endlinks are loose. Or, check the front top strut nuts are tighten down.

Sorry for not clarifying...my car is completely stock...with only 4K miles.

I was actually hoping for a "you obviously don't know about cars, this is completely normal" answer...I guess I may need to go to the dealer.

we can tell you it's normal if you'd like. but it isn't at all. Since you are still under warranty and it is stock....by all means take it to the dealer.

have you driven the car through some construction sites where they just paved the asphalt?

it's possible you got some stuck between your spring coils.

or you had some undercarriage spray work done. that sometimes contribute due to sloppy work.

Fortunately, no to both...also it only seems to happen when I hit a bump or dip when driving slowing and braking (sometimes almost to a complete stop). I don't really hear the sound during normal driving (over speed bumps etc.) but only when braking and slowing down.

On a one-lane street near my work, there is a small dip/hole near the stop sign. I usually end up stopping right in (or slightly after) that dip...that's when I hear the "springy" / "twangy" sound...maybe it's related to my brakes? It also seems to happen when I go over speed bumps really slowly.

hrmmmm...could be dirty bushings or a lack of lubrication in the bushings. wish i lived closer to you, I'd check them out. Any way, the warranty should handle it.

My 2007 Fit did the same when it was new. It is the struts reaching the limit of rebound and the noise will go away as your springs settle..... If you weigh over two hundred pounds and drive alone or with a person much lighter than yourself, you will eventually notice that the springs on the drivers side settle more and the car is lower on that side when no one is in it..... I am thinking about changing my struts from side to side..... My VWs and Volvos never did this..... I thought only Italian cars went down the road, whop sided .

Yeah I can't, can I ......I get stupid when I can't sleep and am loaded up on sleep and pain medicine..... I was thinking strut springs.....I was in the Dallas V.A.hospital Wednesday and it takes awhile to shake off the affects of general anesthetic.... I was awake from pain and I guess the pills were starting to work because I was asleep minutes after I posted. I am glad my car doesn't break down and need to be worked on as much as I do..... If my head is clear and pain level controllable, I am hoping to make the Dallas meet.

This is very interesting. So, I just need to keep driving it and it will settle on its own? No need to check with the dealer?

If you are close to a dealer and it isn't a hassle to drop in, It might be a good idea to have it checked out.... I was always going to with mine when it was doing it but never did and have 23000 miles on it now and the noise disappeared long ago.... You will feel a lot better about the car if a flesh and blood mechanic in a brick and mortar dealership checks it out for you..... Mine only made the noise as the front end topped out on the rebound from stopping, going over a bump or levelling out after entering a driveway or going through a dip.... Like you I only heard it at slow speeds.

Good point...better safe than sorry. I guess I will have to bring it by the dealer. Thanks for the advice.

I'm at 23k miles and still have that issue. I weigh about 150 and drive by myself with no cargo nearly all of the time. It's not every time, but the only time it happens is when I'm braking and hit some sort of bump, even minor bumps. Never took it in, but maybe when I bring it in for its overdue 20k service I'll mention it.

Thinking back on when mine stopped making the noise, I think it was when I put on some light weight wheels and tires. That was less than 2000 miles ago.

It's good to know that I'm not alone and that it's not my imagination...

Hopefully, this isn't a real issue with our Fits.

I've never had that happened to me before. I was assume when springs settle there would be more play which will cause more of that noise you guys are talking about? Interesting to hear about this though.
