Low MPG
Recently I have been experiencing around 25 MPG in an A/T Sport 2008. I used to get around 28-29MPG. I still drive the same semi aggressive. I changed out the air filter hoping that was the problem since it was dirty, but that did not solve it. It is however getting hotter here in Houston, TX...some days were triple digits.
Anyone know if this would be considered normal to lose 3-4 MPG due to increase use of A/C and it being hotter outside?

Oddly, my Fit posted a 32.3 mpg tank just before our 600+ mile vacation trip this year. I added a brand name fuel system cleaner before the trip and over the next 400 miles, I only got 30. Over the next 200+ miles, we averaged 40+mpg, driving faster with the A/C on... Weird. Remind me again not to add any of those fuel system cleaners.

So's mine, and any time I get less than 35-37 mpg, I wonder what I did wrong.
The last tank: No less than 4 people in the car at any time; a hatch full of stuff (suitcases for most of the tank, guns and ammo for the rest); 200 miles @ 70-75 mph; 150 miles of in town driving; A/C never got turned off.
Result? 37 mpg

A/C is definitely a killer. You'll notice that as soon as A/C is turned on, your idle rpm will jump up like 300, and your car will be much more sluggish and less powerful.
When I was still somewhat stock (just sri & exhaust), my GD3 A/T was getting 25-26 mpg driving semi-aggressive 50/50 city & highway. Hot weather will also kill the car's performance, leading to pushing more on the throttle than usual = less mpg. In any case, we have automatics making all these problems seem worse, especially when combined with heavy city driving.

Hello everyone. I have a 07 AT and I am averaging 31-33 with 60highway/40 city. It is in florida and i run the AC everytime i start the car. i have been thinking of getting the denso plugs for my car to see if I can get some more mpgs out of a gallon. I will also get the scan guage too when I get a chance. I use shell by the way and 0w 20w mobile one synthetic.

Seems like this car is inefficient for Honda standards. There are plenty of other cars on the road that would get roughly the same MPGs with more power and room under same driving conditions. People who are getting ideal MPGs with this car sound like they accelerate really slow, using overinflated tires, and no AC.

Yeah, I think it's a combination of the heat, the AC, and the summer formulation of the gasoline. Extra additives mean less mileage. I don't think it matters what setting you put your fan on, it's the compressor running, not the fan speed.

My oil life is 60% and I have been using full synthetic 5w-20 with OEM filter ever since my first oil change. Car is at 18k+ miles.
I had an 2002 Civic EX manual in the past and put on over 90k miles and never had a drop of lower than 27MPG in that vehicle. Same driving conditions, oil, AC settings, and climate. I drove that car harder then the Fit. But even with the manual transmission, I would not expect it to change the fuel efficiency that much (IMO +1mpg).
I also had an S2000, which in the same conditions, would get around low 20s. Averaging about 21-22mpg. Not really too far off from what I am getting now, considering the DOHC 2.2 liter 240hp.

My next fill up interval... I will drive in ideal conditions. slow acceleration, minimum ac and I will see how much of a jump in MPG it is. If it is not at least 30mpg... something is seriously wrong.

I just put in the Denso IK20 spark plug and I notice that my car is much smoother so I will post up when I am done with the first tank of fuel.
Oh check the gaping on your spark plugs my factory original plugs were at .50 and I think spec is .44 so that will effect mpg to. If your out of speck adjust them back to .44

Driving nicely, my A/T 2008 sports Fit with 20,000k gets horrible mileage .. 45L tank and the gas light comes on around 400K if I'm lucky ) once I got 450K... woopy-tee-doo !! My 03 SIG civic with 5 speed averaged 500 K driving hard all the time and it was a pc of crap and a money pit !! I,m starting to wonder about Honda,s rep and quality in the car market !!
