Okay, so I read all the messages about the fog light lenses being in a vulnerable position, yada yada yada, but then I never got around to putting the plastic film over mine.

Yeah, you guessed it! I have a BIG crack clear across the left lens!

Bugger! Now what? Do I have to replace it, or can I just get some film and cover it anyway?

Anyone who hasn't done this mod yet, had better pay attention, like I didn't!

 

That sucks. I've been selling the film for almost 2 years now, but honestly it's been covered many times. People don't think it will crack, but then it ends up happening. U can put film over the crack to protect it from getting any worse. PM me if u want a set in clear or yellow.

 

I have film over my cracked lens and it's been no problem.

 

^does it disguise the crack? Not that anyone can see it anyway...you have to bend down and look just to see the fogs. But I'm going to know it's there.

Now I am afraid to look at my AC condenser...I hate the mesh grilles so I don't know what I can do to protect it anyway.

 

I see the crack if I look for it, it's not really obscured at all. I have clear film, maybe yellow would cover it better. One of these days I'll install the gutter guard I have cut to size in my grille.

 

i cracked mine, replaced them, then before i could have a chance to get the film for it, cracked them again x_x

Did you have to pull off the front to replace the plastic cover?

 

If you get black mesh and put it behind the bumper you will never notice it. I recommend you get some kind of condenser protection.

 

If mine crack, I'll have them replaced under warranty.

Wait, you're telling me that if I went into a Honda dealership and showed them a cracked fog light lens; they wouldn't repair it free of charge?

That doesn't make any sense. The lenses aren't supposed to just crack, that's a bad design on Honda's part.

 

They would tell you that it was due to a rock hitting the lens, and that's not covered.

 

maybe if it was the headlights, MAYBE they would repace it for free, but being that its just fog lights, they dont see it as a necesity to driving, so there not going to bother. thats how i see it

 

That really is F'd up on Honda's part. How much do the housings go for?

 

You have to buy an entire set of fogs...They don't sell just the lenses/one housing

Sucks...I had to do it once on my EP and I've already got film for my GE on the way so I won't have to worry about it (hope it stays ok til then)

 

How does a piece of paper thin film prevent a crack from a rock? I don't get it.

 

^Because it's not paper thin, it's pretty damn thick (depending on what you get) and it has shock absorbing properties.

 

i think ill invest in some... just reading this has me a little scared.

 

Mine cracked 2 months after buying the Fit, so then I bought some yellow LaminX film and covered the cracked lens. No leaks or anything after doing so! As others have stated, it's pretty thick and will prevent further impact.

 

Good! Do it! I didn't and now i have a cracked lens! And I have no idea when it happened, I couldn't hear anything hit it because the road noise is so bad anyway, not that it would have helped in the moment...

Koolkevin on this forum sells the kits for $10. Can't go wrong.
