Only for autocrossing where cornering rises to lead position. If
i can gain just 1 mph in the corner I can lose 3 ft/sec per sec in acceleration and still win.

Interesting. I'm using 205/45/16 Bridgestone 760 sports and they definitely hindered mileage when new. They are too heavy, though now that they are worn mileage is back up to 36-38mpg.
Going to try General Exclaims in the same size which are considerably lighter than the Bridgestones.

You may find the 205's hard going; try some 175 section tires of same diameter and more open tread.

For what it's worth, I had the 205/45/16 General Exclaim UHP's mounted today. They are very compatible with the stock suspension, moreso than the Bridgestones I just took off. Still plenty of grip but better compliance to match the mushy suspension.
Nice.
Nice.
