I haven't posted on this thread yet but I have done quite a few performance modifications and wanted to answer your last question based on what I've experienced..... 15"X7" Enkei RPF1 wheels and lighter tires.... You can reduce unsprung weight and rotating mass by as much as 33lbs which is better than any combination of power enhancing products you could spend the same amount of money on.

yeah your right, i really want to get rid of my horrible steel rims for a set of lightweight mags, but i'm still not decided on the size i want and i don't want to pay too much, but i also don't want to pay for something not worth it... i was trying too find a set of used wheels, problem is that most people out there are ricers who don't know a thing about offset, weight, etc. that's why i'm careful...

well... synthetic oil, new brake pads, new shoes and new winshield wipers don't qualify as maintenance?
lol jk... but that's also why i added "& upgrades"

but while we're at it, what did you guys had to change? are you running on mineral or synthetic? I chose syntec cause i live in cold weather... and i changed my tires because the dunlop sp31 that came with my fit where horrible... my set of khumo are much more stiff, only downside is that I make less mpg with those on, than with my michelin x-ice... for the headlights, i just wanted changed them for the look, (they do work better too) till i buy HIDs... and for the wipers, it's because i was sick of the OEMs, they are noisy and leave a lot of marks... but the bosch are'nt really much better... i think that next time i might go with PIAA silicon wipers next time...

Synthetic oil is a good thing as is the Sylvania bulbs.... Wiper blades for this car that work right may be impossible to find not to mention costly.... I was just thinking about how nice it is not to have to change tires for winter down here because of the warm climate.... Looking out the window and seeing snow right now is pretty freaky but it will melt of and be gone soon.

i switched to mobile1 synthetic since my first oil change. a while ago there was concern about a loose bolt in the gear shift assembly inside the trans. so i pulled mine out to check and see if it was secure - it wasn't. had it fallen out it would have turned everything inside the trans. into metal confetti. i retightened it with loctite and hoped for the best. so far so good

just this past weekend i did a trans. flush and refilled with penzoil synchromesh - rowing through the gears feels like brand new and it's getting better as the days pass!... next week (if it doesn't rain) i'll be readjusting my valves and changing my spark plugs while i'm at it

I think I remember reading about your transmission problem, a scary thing for sure..... How many miles have you accumulated on your car?

i have a little under 50k right now, when i fixed the gear assembly bolt it was around 38k.
if anyone thinks they might have the same problem, a few symptoms i noticed was that i was spending an abnormal amount of time searching for gears [1st and reverse gear more than others] and a clunky-mechanical feel when you finally get into the shift gate.

It has been about 13 years since I had the opportunity to drive on ice but I never passed up doing so when I could.... Very few people down here want anything to do with it so there is very little traffic and you can have a ball.... I had a VW diesel powered pickup truck that was outrageous on ice.

I also installed polanski's gas pedal stiffener, but i'm not quite sure if i like it yet... well i guess i'll see tomorrow morning when i have to drive in traffic jam...

Nice, I just saw your DIY for the seats, really makes me want these recaro...

I've just finished installing sid's short ram intake and it's amazing! i really did'nt think it would be such an improvement, both for sound & for performance
overtakes are now a lot easier, even past 120 km/h...
I also installed polanski's gas pedal stiffener and it works well

yeah! I've installed sid's short ram intake this week end... and i really love it! my power gains are kinda impressive (4-5hp), i was'nt expecting that much... and the sound is amazing it did cost me a lot more tough cause i used aluminium tubing, 4-ply silicone and k&n filters... but i have no regrets!
I also installed polanski's gas pedal stiffener and it works pretty well

I will post new pics of my car soon
