Honda Fit Sport 2007 model AT milage question

I found this site AFTER i just bought a Honda Fit Sport 2007 and are a bit concerned reading about these bad AT GD3 engines. Are all GD3 engines for that year going to give horrible MPG?

Is there anything I can do at all? However, the fuel cost at $3 average per gallon is maybe couple of hundred dollars assuming it's about 10000 miles.

my question is if anyone has any idea is that if these bad milage will be bad for the car in the long run or just bad on the wallet?

you have nothing to worry about. drive it for a couple tanks and see what your actual mileage is before you get concerned about anything. the manual fanatics on this site would have you believe an AT Fit will eat your first born if you let it.

I have a 2008 GD3 AT (same exact car, really) and I have gotten anywhere from 25-38 mpg on my tanks over the last 2 years. I have to say I average from 32-35 mpg most of the time, and I am surrounded by hills where I live.

I used to have three children and now I have 2 all because I bought an AT Fit.

I haven't gotten less than 30 on a 50- 50 mixed tank. I average 37 on my 90% highway driving. I also enjoy about 800 less RPM at highway speed screaming in my ears because I bought an AT.

What's 'bad' ?
Like all 3 of the Fit AT's around me I get 28 to 32 mpg in suburban hilly driving and 34 to 40 mpg on the interstate. If that's bad you need to get a gen 1 insight, which gets 50 to 65 mpg, or a civic hybrid which gets 35 to 45 mpg but a rather expensive IMA battery after 150,000 miles warranty. What do you expect of a 2500 lb non aero car with a 1500 cc engine?

If you look around some of the old posts around here, you'll find that there's a good number of people who have AT GD3's getting at most low 30's, if even that, in the best of conditions (all highway, hypermiling, low rpm's, low speed, low throttle etc). My personal average stock N/A was 26 doing 50/50 in socal - I usually never got over 250 miles per tank. If I put all my attention to driving efficiently, using a Scangauge and all that, my average went up to 27-28, and only one time did I ever hit 31-32 doing 90-100% highway. My friend has an AT GD3 and gets over 300 miles per tank no problem regardless of how he drives. Go figure.

To answer the OP, no not all AT 07-08 GD3 have the MPG issue. Seems to be a small percentage of people, many who have probably moved onto new cars already due to the problem. Most people seem to be getting great MPG (30+ average per tank regardless of driving style & conditions).

Exclamation Heyah, Heyah get along there Mule

I beat my 08 AT like a rented mule stuck in a ditch on a hot Saturday afternoon and average 29.2 mpg.

I just like the visual of that, I really do take good care of MzFiT

If you want to see 300-350 miles per tank go on a 500 mile trip @ 65mph and it'll happen. I have gotten as high as 40mpg. The scoop on the milage is get the engine up to temp and keep driving. It's the stop and go / short trips that kills the MPG.

I'll add a little perspective. I haven't checked my mileage in ages. The best I saw was 33. But the way I see it, with gas at it's current $2.68 I just paid, a fill-up costs me the same it cost my parents to fill up the old '74 Impala (R.I.P.). Granted, I'm usually only buying roughly eight gallons instead of the 20 or so they were buying, but it's the same cash payout. Actually less if you factor in inflation and the devaluation of the dollar since the mid 1970's. It's about the most versatile package and best handling ride for the money you can buy, and it will give you back much more than decent mileage.

Welcome to Fit ownership.

I went on a 250 mile trip doing 65-70 mph. That + around 30 miles of suburban city driving got me 31 mpg for the tank. It couldn't even come close to the 300 mile mark after doing a 90% highway drive at 65-70 mph.

Supercharged AT Fit here and with a heavy foot im getting 28 - 30mpg on mixed driving. cost me less then $30 on premium to fill up once a week. I dont know what you call bad but that is definitely not it.

I just took my first MPG reading after living with my 2007 Fit Sport with an automatic and doing about 90% city driving. After 86 miles I averaged 27.04 MPG. I know I do too much city driving but I drive with a feather foot. In fact I drive to maximize MPG's. That's why I was disappointed I didn't get into the 30's even if I did mostly city driving. I'm going to check the PSI in my tires. I assumed the dealer I picked it up from had it just right. What's the best pressure I could put it at for max MPG's without shortening the life of my rubber?

it's the sit or around town stuff that hurts the fit. you willl do much better on long trips. I AVERAGE 28 to 32 in ny city. 34 to 37 on long highway trips

low of 22 mpg, typical is 24-26 with 70% of the miles on the highway. highest yet was >40, all highway, with an average speed of 45mph because weather was bad. again, typical for my wife's car is 24-26 whether she or i drive it.

I have a feeling you guys with *feather feet* might be taking it to the extreme. If you go put-put on the gas when your torque converter is unlocked and the car actually needs more power you will waste loads of gas because of the lost opportunity to take advantage of the available power.

something else.....

if you have lost power or done anything, have you made sure you "retrained" your brain?

someone else posted about needing to do so if you replace your air filter with a CAI so that your car can adjust to that....but you guys might want to give it a try b/c 22-24 just seems freakishly low, unless your pulling an F1 and really going after those paddle shifters.

I hope that's not the case. The first thing I'm going to do is check the tire pressure today. I still wish the thing had a manual tranny, that might help improve MPG some.

I've also noticed how the paddles only let you have so much command of which gears you can choose from

CVT would be a nice option too. I noticed how Honda gets more MPG's with the CVT on the CRZ than it does the stick shift. My last car (Altima) had a CVT too and it felt perfectly fine to me, even if I've seen auto magazines bitching about them.

The WORST mileage I've ever gotten with my AT Fit is 32. I'm averaging 35-37 right now with snow tires on the car. Yokohama IG20's that I picked up at Discount Tire for a song.

I've been averaging in the 40's with the stock steelies and all-season tires. I took a small hit when I switched over to an aluminum rim because of the weight. The snow tires are on the steel wheels now. I am actually surprised at the mileage with the snow tires because the tread compound is so soft. You can wiggle the tread blocks with a finger. Also, I'm running the 'recommended' pressure of 32psi with the snow tires.

2008 honda fit sport AT one owner. Approx 36,000 miles. 104 fillups since new with overall mileage average at 33.33 mpg. I do not have a scan guage, just use the old fashioned method. I fill it till I see gas in the filler neck every time. Lowest 28 mpg, highest 37 mpg.

No complaints on this little jewel from me.
