It happend again!

Had my 2nd car accident ever and once again it wasnt my fault (1st time I was rear ended by a pensioner). This 2nd accident was a bit more than a fender bender and to be honest Im quite surprised how the Jazz held up considering the state of the other cars.

A little background on the accident itself: I was waiting in turning lane at a set of traffic lights. The blue Renault Clio you see below tried to turn into slipway joining the road I was waiting on. The woman was speeding (excessively IMO) as she understeered over the concrete island, across an open lane into my Jazz, then into the woman behind me (Yaris sedan) and then finally coming to a stop on the shoulder of the road. The Yaris behind me leaked radiator fluid and had the airbags go off (gives you an idea of what kind of speed the Renault was going at).

The Jazz has $3000 worth of damage. New door, fender/bumper, etc etc

Luckily not, the wheel is gonna get refurbished and I should get a new tyre since its got a slow leaking puncture. Im hoping there's no serious suspension damage though, at the moment the alignment is out by quite a large margin.

damn i know how it feels...
my mother backed up in my Fit with her jetta while i was parked sideways behind her (only way to make put my car in the alley in winter)...
the passenger door in front and the front wing were both hit... worst is that now there is a leak in the top of the door... wich means it's crooked...
it also really sucks since i still have payments left on my car and i do lots of maintenance on it...

I am glad to hear that you are alright and hopefully the other drivers are as well. I am surprised how much damage the Renault took compared to the Honda.

Here's an interesting update- the Yaris sedan is a write-off! aka Totaled

Im also surprised, the Jazz is damn strong (must be the ACE frame structure right?)

Airbags went off and the driver had a slight scratch by her eye and nose and complained that her knees were sore.
Never spoke to the Renault driver, she went to hospital. Was released the next day but apparently doesnt remember the accident (how convinient). Insurance is busy tracking her down as we speak.

Think your right, checked the spec sheet and the GD3 has a 'Impact absorbing G-control body' sounds fancy!

and side impact protection beams as well as side SRS airbags.

Is your rear torsion beam okay? That might have taken a hit, and if the rear wheel alignment is out of whack you might need it replaced. Might be worth inspecting.

Anyway glad to see you're fine

Im assuming so since the insurance assesors made a note to check the suspension for damage. When I checked on the progress the 'doughnut' seems to have no negative camber to it so it appears to be fine.

Its gonna be 3 weeks without the car now. Was supposed to collect it tomorrow (Friday) but they're busy redoing the paintjob because it apparently didnt come out properly. Only getting the car next week

Gonna make a point of inspecting and test-driving the car before I sign it out.

Yep you should do that.

An acquaintance of mine had a similar collision. Driving it afterward, he said his GD got pretty nervous at speed and wasn't confidence-inspiring at all when turning. Turns out his rear torsion beam got pipped, which was pretty much the worst-case scenario as far as expense is concerned. I can't remember if his insurance had it covered.

Glad to see this thing holds up so well, as we bought the wife's in large part from the crash test ratings.
