Question Rear Springs to carry more weight and keep original ride height

Hey All,
I'm not looking to so much for better handling, but raise the load rating in the back. To be able to carry more kids and the stuff that goes with them, with summer coming up this would be a good thing for D MzFiT. Any body come across HD rear springs in their research? GD3 '08 Sport.
Thankx for any info

I have a pair of air shocks on the way... They are stiffer than the standard shocks and by increasing the air pressure you can elevate the rear of the car and lower the headlight level at night when you are loaded down with all of those wimskins and the stuff they carry around.

It is a cheap fix that a banned member named manxman did a thread on almost 2 years ago called "DIY Monroe Rear Air Shocks". I purchased the Monroe #MA811 air shocks from Suspension Kits & Parts Expert: Find Air Shocks, Struts & Lift Kits for $64.19 shipping included...

This part number is for a 92-94 Buick Skylark as well as some later model GM FWD cars so they will easily handle anything a car as light Fit with mucho less unsprung weight than a Buick even with some big ole drunken rednecks wallering around in the cargo area.

Shipping tomorrow Tex, and will install in the next 2 weekends. Give me time to paint them maybe the kylon kandy purple?? Humm... but I would like to use 2 separate air lines but want to find metal shrader fittings instead of the plastic one in the kit. Have you seen anything like that in a kit?

I went to town (don't laugh Amanda) thinking that mine might have arrived, they hadn't.... When they do I also am going to install a Megan street header and attempt to put some insulation material or fashion a heat shield on the lower part of the intake tube to the supercharger..It sucks how close it is to the exhaust but at least the header has an insulation blanket covering it.... Heat kills power the output on my car. Temperature was in the 80s today and power is down, in another 6 weeks I will be able to floor it an second and roll backwards.

I am thinking about training Ringo to stand on the hood and pee on the throttle body through the hood louvers. I would save money on windshield cleaner too.

So besides the air shocks there are air bags that keep the springs from compressing and increasing the load capibility. Some of us have used the bag suspension like Felix69, which is a cool visual but I wonder how practical it is? This air assist bag keeps every looking stock, like the air shocks. Anyone used these on any of their rides Fits or other vehicles? and if so what did you like or dislike about them? They can come with a compressor to raise the PSI from the inside.

Sixteen years ago I put some Air Lift bags just like the ones in the picture on a 79Lincoln Towncar that I used to tow the travel trailer I was living in at the time....At the same time I installed polyurethane bushings on the sway bars and the new extra heavy duty gas shocks. That big boat handled like a sports car and even though it was underpowered I towed the Trailer driving it like I wasn't towing anything at all... I searched to find some for the Fit with negative results. They expanded in all directions pushing out on the springs and feel great without raising the car much until you put a lot of pressure in them. I could only put them in the rear coils but there are some truck that can use them in the front... They have been around for over 50 years and were used on dragstrips and in stock car racing as a means of pre loading the rear wheels for better traction and handling.

The Monroe Air Lifts were first reported in January 08 and many have used them successfully. Search the Suspension posts and you'll find many excellent photos from those who have performed the change as well as list of parts used. 08's were simple but the 09's and 10's do require a change in the lower pivot bolt to accomodate the larger bolt holes. And handling will be improved as well as rear weight carrying capacity.
Mine now have more than 40,000 miles on them including track days with no problems whatsoever and we've been doing this mod for over 30 years on a bunch of cars. At least one has 200,000 miles on it.
Good luck.
